Millenials are first generation to not really have a huge artistic musical influence

Boomers had the 60's and part of 70s ....epic music in their prime 20's years

Gen X had the 90's, grunge, rap, one hit wonders, rock......90's was a pretty influential GOAT music period

millenials...peak artistic years would be around 2007 to 2020 - this is one of the worst periods of music ....the only truly good stuff that came out was older gen x artist releasing stuff in their 30 and 40 s even (srs) most of the artist loved by millenials arent even millenials (just younger gen x).

its honestly sad..who is the "millenial" music icon?

I was born in 1984 so aren’t people in this range all the way up to 1994 a millenial too?

I miss the 90 rock/hip hop/country and early 2000’s rap/hip hop. 90s rock is literally all that’s on my itunes outside of a few 36 mafia and random hip hop songs here and there. Music after I went to college started to suck beyond belief to me. Whatever generation that is considered is getting the worst of all time.

They’ll never know whatit was like to watch mtv for an hour just to see your favorite music video come on so that you could hit record on the vcr and have it saved for all time.......until your mom recorded a soap opera over it.

I think he’s saying millennials haven’t created influential, artistic music. Taylor Swift is 89 right and is very influential. Obviously not artistic at all though.

With the exception of a few genres, music from the 60s thru early 90s were made by musicians who knew what they were doing, classically trained, etc but decided to make rock/pop. Overlapping from the 80s to today you have popular musicians who learned nothing but power chords, etc and are severely limited in scope. My theory, anyway.

from the scope of the thread, it seems like you're not talking about influence on a certain generation. but an artist born in the same generation they're influencing?

by the same notion are all the artists you're referencing influencing their own generation or other generations? you said eminem was x but mainly influenced millenial or is eminem x and mainly influenced x and millienials only a little bit?

This. Good music died with Gen X. I mean, there were artists here and there that did great chit like Kid Cudi in his early days. Kendrick had some good chit too in his younger days before he sold out. I think ASAP's my favorite rapper from our generation & is an underrated GOAT. Other than that, it's all throw-away imo.

There's been almost no good rock since the SAD & Linkin Park era.
