How are people this delusional? (srs)

Was having dinner with family a few weeks ago. I mentioned a recent crime in which an elderly woman was punched down by a grown man and then robbed. I said I hope they catch him and put him away for a long time.

Sibling said "actually prison doesn't rehabilitate people"

I said "I don't care if they are rehabilitated or not. They should be behind bars so they can't do it again to other people"

Then sibling said something like "actually prison is what makes people return to crime"

and this went on and on. How can people be like this? srs

Thats quite an extreme viewpoint to say there is no wrong. So someone flying a plane into a building and killing 3000 people isn't wrong?

It's true. Our prisons only care about money. Imagine throwing a thug in prison and not properly rehabilitating them, then they commit another crime.

If I'm not mistaken, it's something like $50,000 per inmate. The more prisoners, the more profit, they want thugs to be repeat offenders.

The problem is you're assuming your sister wants to see the criminal rehabilitated, or even wants to see less crimes commited. That she wants what's best for the criminal. In reality, your sister is a woman, and so sees the criminal as incredibly alpha, and wants what's best fot him. She so wants him to not be behind bars so he can punch her as well then fuk her. What if it's a plane flown by SS into a building of 3000 Islamic extremists? I trust you're familiar with the trolley dilemma, and if you're like most people, maximizing welfare for the greatest number is the lowest common denominator. Liberals have definitely shuffled the deck of values in an attempt to undermine institutions and cultural traditions, but my effort is only trying expose narrow bands of thinking. Neither of you is wrong tbh. Our system doesn't rehabilitate and it's designed for profit. It makes it nearly impossible to find normal jobs as a convicted felon. But you are also right **** that scumbag out him away regardless of his rehabilitation.
