But srs it's this. My problem is mobility. I have a desk job, and was a fat fukk for years growing up so im slowly trying to get my mobility there. "broke" my leg 2 years ago at a time i finally had some help on technique with some friends. Then....right when i was getting better and walking again...covid happened. Just did 225 again finally, still have work to do on technique, but it's getting there. I think my problem right now is ankle/calve movement. Getting my knees forward and opening my hips is tough right now with my mobility.

The thing with squats is it isnt like any other lifts where you can kinda just jump right in to it and not really get yourself in trouble. Squats you really need to develop some balance, flexibility, mobility, and solid technique. Most people either dont have access to someone who will really help them or are afraid to ask.

Right. You have a valid issue, but you also have the great mentality to try and understand the problems and target them. Most folks run around bragging on squatting 400 when it is a quarter squat/good morning combo with no intent to learn about proper form.

Squats are literally the king of all the exercises. Most don’t do it because it requires work and you have to do accessory exercises to keep everything healthy.

What soyed up coont is gonna do all that?

Yup. I also dont push myself and listen to my body. I did 245x2 this week. Probably couldve done more, but went nah, take it easy. Dropped the weight back down to 135 and just did flexibility/mobility reps. I definitely think some solid raised heel shoes would help me a ton. If i get my heels off the ground my butt goes right down, which makes me want to focus on my posterior chain.

I squat because of my herniated and ruptured disc. It stopped aggravating it once I gained proper mobility and got rid of the butt wink.

Me too. I get more out of repping less weight and reducing risk (225-300). I never do singles or even doubles.

Yeah, i've noticed with me i creep up the weight and always mentally think to leave some in the tank to avoid anything. If i feel anything in my back, i stop. Then, when i really lighten up to say 135, it's effortless and i can drop and then work hips/knees/ankles around to get the flexibility.

I can leg press like 5 plates on each side but can only squat 2 plates on each side.

Once my butt is deep in the hole it takes all of my leg strength to get out. Always go ass to grass. Once again once I'm ass to grass it's tough to get out, I just want to stay there.

People don’t like to squat because squatting is hard. That heavy weight is trying to crush you; it’s not like a deadlift where you’re simply picking it up or a bench where you’re lying down and holding it in your hands. That weight is pushing down on your spine trying to crush you during the entire set. Then you’re having to squat down into the most vulnerable position and use the biggest, strongest muscles in your body to push back up.

There’s a reason Dave Tate and many other powerlifters and bodybuilders preach that, if you see a guy with big legs, he’s probably not all there mentally. Good luck finding a guy putting 800+ lbs on his spine and squatting to depth who is completely mentally stable.

hmm, i was pretty religious about my form, but it still happened. just like any machine your joints only have so many cycles and all it takes is just a little instability at heavy weights and you've bought it. ill stick to lifting moderate/light weight on squats. but i do agree squats are essential, just not necessarily squatting 500lb

5 plates on leg press is comparable to a 2 plate squat on most leg presses tbh

I squat very very rarely. Don't see the point, my legs are already at the natty limit and they're easily my most developed body parts. Do i risk injury or just stick to presses and extensions?

Enjoy having a phucked up body full of aches and pains starting from your 40s to maybe 50s if you're lucky for the rest of your life, just because you wanted to brag about your lifting numbers to a forum full of people that don't even lift.

That's just bad ankle mobility. Not too hard of a fix.

Squats are amazing for much more than just your legs.

Nope but I don’t blast gear either. Most people aren’t getting to 600 natty unless they get fat as hell. Certainly not for reps.

Pretty well known at this point that lifting heavy for years will fuk ur chit up later in life, so what's the point? You can build the same wheels by squatting half that for more reps. Unless you make a living out of lifting heavy (not a chance), it's absolutely retarded, but you do you (and by you I mean the OP).

1. It's fun.

2. Lots of people who never lifted heavy end up fuked up. What's your point? We're all headed in the same direction, brah.

Sure, people that never smoked also die of lung cancer, so why not smoke a couple packs a day, right?

Where are the studies on that?

Elite level PL and Strongmen know they’re compromising their bodies, but to them the tradeoff is worth it. But decades of natty strength training done properly is only going to improve your body.

Also agree with the squatting for more reps.
