why take photos of landmarks if youre not in them

Why do people take photos of landmarks and attractions if they're not in the photo?

Your iPhone photo of niagra falls aint better than the photos 1000s of professional photographers have taken.
If you need to update your instagram or grindr profile with these types of photos just get one off google.

So you can have a personal memory of a place you've been to.

Because the person took the photo. It's theirs.

Why make or create anything if you can find/buy a better one? Because it's mine and I made it and I'm proud of it. This is such a fundamental human thing, creating stuff. How autistic do you have to be to ask this question?

It's personal. The scenery you watched through your own eyes once.

Whenever you watch it later, the photo reminds you of the memories of that day.

As some one who takes travel photography and post on IG, this is why. I travel alone mostly and take my own photos sometimes but I don’t wanna set up a tripod and go through the hassle of using self timers and checking the shot. & I have a specific eye I want for my shots that I wouldn’t want a stranger taking one of me.

I agree with OP up to a point, but not because of the quality of photograph. I see people taking photos of just about everything in their lives, and personally, I would much rather be 'living the moment' than viewing it through a camera lense.

Having a vivid and tactile memory is more important to me than a digital record.

But if I ever climb Mount Everest, I will definatly be taking my own pics.
Damn
