Bears are fuking terrifying - Sankebetsu brown bear incident

holy chit, just stumbled upon this wikipedia article, legit more terrifying than anything i've read this year,

it happened in japan in 1915
The incident took place between December 9 and 14, 1915, after a large brown bear woke up from hibernation and repeatedly attacked several houses in the area.
just fukin imagine the absolute terror living out in the wilderness when there is a testosterone fuelled 340 kg (749 lbs) and 2.7 m (8.85 ft) tall killing machine walking around at night and repeatedly evading being killed

highly recommend reading the full article:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sankeb..._bear_incident

the village where it happened was later abandoned and there is a museum there now

helmet for scale ^^, awfukbye

can't imagine that terror, RIP to the victims

Remember that story from like Russia or somewhere near there about six years ago when that bear attacked that girl walking home. She managed to call her mom while she was down on the ground telling her mom how the bear was eating her alive. Brutal.

fuark, terrible man, one of the victims from this attack was pregnant:
Saitō Ishigorō's pregnant wife. She too was attacked, killed, and eaten. From later testimony, villagers heard Take begging the bear not to touch her belly but instead to eat her head. Later the fetus was found alive from her corpse but died shortly after.
heartbreaking stuff srs

That one is super fuked up.

It was the bear's cubs who were eating her alive while she was on the phone with the mom. Was ridiculous. They hunted and killed every bear involved

Brown bears are the animals that im scared of the most, by far. Not even great whites come close. Ive read and seen to many **** about brown bears
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

Yes and IIRC the girls uncle was hiking with her and had already been killed. So the mom gets a call and finds out that her brother is dead and her daughter is currently being eaten alive.

I’ve also seen pictures on 4chan of human remains of a forest worker in Alaska that was eaten by a bear. Head ripped off, legs ripped off, whole torso ripped open and completely hollow.

Terrifying srs.

This is why I roll eyes so hard at miscers who hate hunters. They don’t understand the wildlife balance that’s in place and the repercussions of nobody hunting and letting nature go ham. You let one species get out of wack with population numbers and it creates a domino effect leading to more predators to kill people.

I fear bears.

A bear is one thing that I fear.

But I try and respect them, like this Indigenous guy I used to work with told me to do. Just speak to them like you would a man and they will leave you be.

His advice might've worked, haha.
None of the above constitutes legal advice nor should be interpreted as such.

its good advice man, just read earlier about how native american's approached them
Many Native American tribes both respect and fear the brown bear.

Native American tribes sympatric with brown bears often view them with a mixture of awe and fear. North American brown bears have at times been so feared by the Natives that they were rarely hunted by them, especially when alone. At traditional grizzly hunts in some western tribes such as the Gwich’in, the expedition was conducted with the same preparation and ceremoniality as intertribal warfare and was never done except with a company of four to ten warriors. The tribe members who dealt the killing blow were highly esteemed among their compatriots. Californian Natives actively avoided prime bear habitat and would not allow their young men to hunt alone for fear of bear attacks. During the Spanish colonial period, some tribes would seek aid from European colonists to deal with problem bears instead of hunting grizzlies themselves. Many authors in the American West wrote of Natives or voyageurs with lacerated faces and missing noses or eyes, due to attacks from grizzlies.

Bears are similar to dogs in that they sense fear.

If ever confronted by a bear remain calm and stare intensely into its eyes. Make no suddent movement. It will run away in terror if done right.

I read about that a while ago, bears are fukkin savage. They don't even kill you before they start eating you.

Yeah this

A distraught mother listened on a mobile phone as her teenage daughter was eaten alive by a brown bear and its three cubs.

Olga Moskalyova, 19, gave an horrific hour-long running commentary on her own death in three separate calls as the wild animals mauled her.

She screamed: 'Mum, the bear is eating me! Mum, it’s such agony. Mum, help!'

Her mother Tatiana said that at first she thought she was joking.

'But then I heard the real horror and pain in Olga’s voice, and the sounds of a bear growling and chewing,' she added. 'I could have died then and there from shock.'

Unknown to Tatiana, the bear had already killed her husband Igor Tsyganenkov - Olga’s stepfather - by overpowering him, breaking his neck and smashing his skull.

Olga, a trainee psychologist, saw the attack on her stepfather in tall grass and reeds by a river in Russia and fled for 70 yards before the mother bear grabbed her leg.

As the creature toyed with her, she managed to call Tatiana several times during the prolonged attack.Tatiana rang her husband - not knowing he was already dead - but got no answer.

“Steroids is now just a word that the lazy and ignorant use to describe any guy that has more muscle and dedication than them”– Mike O'Hearn

"I am like getting the feeling of cumming in the gym; I'm getting the feeling of cumming at home; I'm getting the feeling of cumming backstage; when I pump up, when I pose out in front of 5000 people I get the same feeling, so I am cumming day and night. It's terrific, right? So you know, I am in heaven."

This.

If I have a nuisance bear that's a problem, that black fuk immediately knows to avoid me like the plague despite it being aggressive and threatening other people, or destroying property.

If you have every intention of killing it, or legitimately intend on kicking its ass, it knows your attitude right away.

Welp, it's a last ditch effort. Running away isn't the answer because it triggers the prey drive.

Ōkawa Haruyoshi, who was seven years old and the son of the Sankebetsu village mayor at the time of the incident, grew up to become a prolific bear hunter. He swore an oath to kill ten bears for every victim of the attack. By the time he reached the age of 62, he had killed 102 bears. He then retired and constructed the Bear Harm Cenotaph (熊害慰霊碑, Yūgai Ireihi), a shrine where people can pray for the dead villagers.

pretty cool
