Just quit software engineering and switched to its business corpie side [reps] [srs]
-- Did an internship at Big Tech and did a job in a financial institution on the tech side.
-- Coding, especially Android, can be very fun if the project is from scratch.
-- 75-80% industry opportunities DO NOT have this, have a lot of established codebase learning and **** work, such as migrating tech or configuration.
-- Sometimes you have new projects, but design/creative **** is either in joining start-ups or creating one (risks are stability and pay).
-- Switching to Business Analyst* is great if you are not autistic and can be sociable and blubber like a politician. I even have a tech background.
-- You do less complex work and you end up getting promoted whilst not being stuck clawing through error logs.
-- All directors in tech (look up Google CEO) probably have never coded in their lives and they have History degrees from Stanford and then save face with a good MBA.
Just work hard and enjoy the meritocracy of life. Not srs
reps till I am out, I am happy to be out
*promotion track is to Product Manager and **** like that compared to Software Engineer - Software Engineering Manager (ceiling).

it's a good move srs. You pretty much nailed it. 80% of software engineering jobs are awful in terms of the work you do. The pay is decent but the advancement is cucked.
Just LOL if 90% of your job isn't based on soft skills. Getting paid to manage, take clients to lunches, playing golf is the GOAT life.

Welcome to corporate finance boyo. Earnings potential significantly increased with move. And like you said don’t be an autist, be able to communicate, and have a personality.
Good luck.

just you can't simply go from software to senior IB or senior Finance jockey because it usually means starting over

I wouldn't even say BA in tech is "business". Unless you are a business owner, no such thing as working in the business.
I am on that track where you are the client-facing and manage strategy and feature development (BA, Product, inclusive of Project, Manager).
Google CEO is like that:
Pichai worked in engineering and product management at Applied Materials and in management consulting at McKinsey & Company.[17] Pichai joined Google in 2004, where he led the product management and innovation efforts for a suite of Google's client software products, including Google Chrome[18] and Chrome OS, as well as being largely responsible for Google Drive. He went on to oversee the development of other applications such as Gmail and Google Maps.[19][20] On November 19, 2009, Pichai gave a demonstration of Chrome OS; the Chromebook was released for trial and testing in 2011, and released to the public in 2012.[21] On May 20, 2010, he announced the open-sourcing of the new video codec VP8 by Google and introduced the new video format, WebM.[22]
On March 13, 2013, Pichai added Android to the list of Google products that he oversaw. Android was formerly managed by Andy Rubin.[23] He was a director of Jive Software from April 2011 to July 30, 2013.[24][25][26] Pichai was selected to become the next CEO of Google on August 10, 2015[27] after previously being appointed Product Chief by CEO, Larry Page. On October 24, 2015 he stepped into the new position at the completion of the formation of Alphabet Inc., the new holding company for the Google company family.[28][26][29]

Deep technical stuff I don't care about anymore, not my job.
Got promoted to do this and I work less and meet with more girls on meetings and stare at their sexy legs and calling it "a productive meeting".
Coding can be done for my personal projects, not a large codebase cog-in-machine style.

I never said I went another step - that is a senior BA or PM, I just switched to the equivalent. It was easy because social skills and I have an actual tech background.
And your mentality is quite the crab mentality.
The average Product Manager is in a much better position from every angle than the average Software Engineering Manager.
And I did my Comp Sci in a top school and will do an MBA from a top school NP. **** chance to be an exec but the leftover **** is much better than the leftover **** in pure engineering roles. Not to mention that the engineer monkeys do not have a chance at exec at all.

lol at copecels hating on OPie. ITT Analyst -> Management path much easier than from dev, still need to be like top half of analysts to move up though, which generally isnt hard considering most analyst types are goobers who majored in business admin or some chit. If youre not retarded/autistic and have any business sense you can mog them by having both that and even a general sense of dev/coding.
How long were you a software engineer before making this switch OP? If still pretty early in your career not a big deal to switch tracks, if youve put like 5-10 years in already kind of a downgrade if you didnt at least get senior analyst

I hate the corporate jungle as, unlike lawyer/medicine, it is more of a jungle than set paths. But from observations / trying to decode/rationalise it seems like there are two paths:
BA ---> Senior versions ---> Product/Project Manager types ---> Beyond
Software Developer (whatever sub-speciality, excluding admin/IT support as that, is not even in the industry) ---> Senior Software Developer ---> Software Developer Manager ---> Beyond
I just feel the former progresses faster and is considered more important for some reason. I also think the work will be better as I will not be stuck in some specific technical segment. And as you have said if I have a personality and I actually have some understanding how a business requirement translates to a proper feature and surrounding technologies, I can shine a bit more than the random non-techie.
