Does anyone actually give a fuk that google/ big tech monetizes their data?

People kick up such a fuss about this, as if there is some clandestine network of malicious big tech personnel personally monitoring their data with intent to do harm

Whilst they do capture your data, the data gets spat out into some heavily encrypted fat machine learning algorithm or some **** to target ads at you.. which also happens to be almost completely avoidable thanks to ad blockers

I mean who actually cares about this?? Feels like a small price to pay for "free" services which are fukkin awesome like google maps, android, gmail etc

No. As a former internet marketer, it's great for both marketers and for potential customers. Why would you be mad to get advertisements that actually fulfill your needs? And if you don't want those products, then don't buy them. To me, it's just another boogieman everyone will forget about in 10 years.

I used to talk to this very smart guy on the net a long time ago and he pointed out the internet is SLAVERY.

This is before ********, etc. He was talking about message boards.

So, a person starts an EMPTY social media website that has NO CONTENT and who creates the content?

YOU DO.

Your content attracts traffic to the website which makes the site valuable.

Savery is using the free labor of others to make money for yourself. In the case of the internet, most people do not think the website is making money and that they are working for the site for free. So, it's a form of covert slavery.

If ******** was a building and we each had a room with our work on display and you saw the order making money off of people allowed to look at our stuff, you would want some of that money. The building owner would be nothing without your room.

So, it's a creepy and deceitful business.

Stalking:

Youtube has some interactive ads, and I don't mind that. They ask stuff like which soda you would buy and so on.

However, ******** has stalker ads.

I have noticed ads for things I just said pop up on my phone, when it was in my pocket. These were weird named towns and stuff, so there is no way it was a coincidence. Also, I have purchased brands I never have and even a sweet potato and suddenly ******** is filled with these ads.

I don't mind ads but these are like a stalker who investigates some girl and then tells her he knows all about her.

It's not nice, it's creepy.

Those are the two reasons I don't like their business model.

I'm more against the complete and massive psychological manipulation trough emotional advertising and narrative. Do you ever ask yourself how much your feed distorts your world view?

I could get tampon adds or actual things I’m going to buy based on things I actually have searched for. If you don’t have the will power to just not click on the add, you’re the problem.

Just PHUCKEN LOL @ "advertisgin fulfilling peoples needs" more like psychological manipulation into desiring useless crap that some oligarch wants you to buy, marketing and advertising are diabolic industries. Most of the downfall of the west is due to the ideological foil caused by capitalism that permeates every fiber of the slave:

brb why should you be faitfull to your partner when there's a newer shinnier model one swipe away
brb why should you be truthfull to yourself when a new set of values and identity is available around the corner...

How much do you understand about what you did.

What is one of the most popular forms of marketing? remarketing which means targeting people who have previously visited your website or whatever.

Do you know how annoying it is? Accidently click a link or follow some link someone posted online? You will now see that an ad for that website 100 times even though you obviously left that website without buying because you're not interested in what they have to offer.

It's horrible and it's not good for the consumer. Just one example (one of the most widely used) of how data is used in marketing and how annoying it is to the consumer.

Yes. I used internet without a VPN for one day just to test the waters and I google searched a bunch of different treadmills. The next day I was getting emails of treadmill sales. Never using Google Searches while logged in and not on a VPN ever again.

Chit is going to get just as bad as the spamming robocalls. srs.

I get the same thing including "news articles" and I hate it.

I love to research stuff and I mean anything that crosses my mind and then for weeks I will be getting articles and crap I'm not interested in anymore.

I like SURPRISED not stuff I'm already interested in.

Ad targeting isn't the problem, the problem is companies portraying themselves as free while using you to clandestinely generate revenue. I get irritated with chit like Instagram and TikTok that built up user bases and now will lock you out of content unless you sign up for their garbage and become part of the revenue stream. The users truly are the product and the chit is cancerous, the whole business model needs to GTFO

IMO it's much better to be told up front how they'll phuck you because at least you know what's coming, these companies nowadays would rather turn you around so you don't know what's pointed at your sphincter

Ultimate power corrupts, they have enough already. You think the gap between the .0001% and everyone else is bad now? Keep giving them more tools to solidify their grip.
