Your least favorite gym member!

For starters, I'm home "sick" from work so I have a lot of useless time. Where to begin...

I'm at a point in life where I make short pointless stories unnecessarily longer.

Friday-Sunday I am able to go to the gym in the morning when its generally less crowded. You have the older crowd there for the most part. I am not a gym socializer, I have on headphones, ignore all around me and do my thing.

One regular, my gym nemesis, is in the same schedule. A little about him, he's probably in his 50's, short, fat, with white hair.

Yes, I took his pic. I needed a friend to see this guy to give my grievances some perspective.

He is the king of poor gym etiquette. Upon arrival he talks to anyone who will engage him for a good 10 minutes before he does anything. He carries an enormous water bottle that he places on the wet wipe dispenser (which is really small) so every time you need to wipe something down you are basically touching his bottle. When he's "on" a piece of equipment he's their a lifetime. I look ahead when I'm near my last set of one thing to what I will do next. If I see him I move on to something different. I have done my last 2 sets one place, saw him, moved onto something different, done 4 more sets, and he's still there.

As previously mentioned, this is not peak time so generally you don't have a large crowd. Their are 4 benches, evenly spread out in these China Virus times, in front of the dumbell rack. No one was in this area so I took a bench on the end. So if anyone else needed to work we wouldn't be on top of each other. Here comes my nemesis. He grabs some dumbells, stands in front of my bench, a foot away from the rack and starts doing something. All the fuking space in the world and he's right in front of me.

He also tends to hover. Same area, the dumbell rack bench area. I'll be doing my thing. Some older guys will be in the area, these are generally talkers and he loves to talk, which is fine, so long as you are e out of the way. This one's a gray area, he doesn't literally stand in the way, but he's close to where I'm working. He will have a long conversation and chose to stand in my space the entire time. The other guys are always outside the perimeter of what a normal person would consider to close.

2 more. The gym has 3 individual bathrooms, 2 are right next to each other, the 3rd a short distance away. All 3 are in eyeshot of each other. So I go in to take a piss, literally no more then 2 minutes to piss, wash hands, quick pose in ideal lighting, then out. 30 seconds in a hear a knock on the door. I think WTF! When you need a bathroom you go and try to open each door, if they are are all locked you wait a minute and take whichever opens first. Common sense! I come out and start heading to my next spot, I pass him and he says, "oh your done". I literally didn't even acknowledge that he spoke to me, just walked right past him.

Last one I promise. So I am not a talker, but I made one exception. Some older guy was a big Trumpster, I heard him talking politics on many occasions leading up to the election. We had similar views and I decided to have a little chat with him. The guy was s smart and had worked on campaigns and stuff like that. My nemesis was in ear shot and immediately came over and started giving all his limited insight and opinions. I continued to talk to the other guy and didn't acknowledge or comment a single thing he said. This put me in a weird position. I didn't want the guy I was talking to to think I was a complete douche. Ironically, he also continued to talk to me and also completely dismissed everything he was saying.

Anyway, the guy just annoys me. He does a ton of little things nonstop that are just dumb.

Do you guys have a gym nemesis? Someone you can't help but notice doing annoying things on a regular basis?

I wish I had a gym nemesis but gyms are closed here.

My least favourite people are the twinks who workout in pairs or threes, with the slightly less dyel twink 'training' the others. They tend to take up equipment for far longer than necessary. Other than taking up equipment I don't really care what other people do in the gym.

perhaps a good morning and maybe some small talk with the guy will go a long way. but no just sit there and continue being a kunt

Definitely seen a big influx of these groups since rona. Only 1 older guy at new gym has been annoying sometimes which I feel sorry for but I ain't got 10 minutes to chit chat in locker room everyday. Likes to talk about the war/his kids.

This. A few "hello's" or "good mornings" here and there but that's the extent of it.

Sorry OP, not reading that wall of text.

I can't stand those MF'rs that don't re-rack weights.

They're just as bad as idiots who don't return their shopping cart, leaving it in the middle of the parking lot. All while the cart return is 20 feet away from them. Selfish and lazy.

It's not the talking, it's being in the way unnecessarily. I go out of my way to stay out of the way. I make it a point not to inconvenience anybody.

Yeah I don't honor super sets generally. If I can do something else equal to whats being used I might, but you can plant the flag on one thing at a time, not 3.

The people who piss me off are the ones who never rack their weights, but I haven't seen that in a while at my gym. Then you have the guy who will try to outlift you, but I don't care about that.

But story time if you care, because this just happened.

I've never had a nemesis, but I think I just made one. I was in the gym the other day and I was waiting for a flat bench, and this was my last exercise for the day. Logic dictates that you really only need to wait 10-ish minutes for anything. So this one skinny dude is benching. He starts off with 135 and does 10 reps. I ask him how many he has left and he's like "oh the guys behind you are waiting as well, but I have a few more". No problem, I'll wait for the other bench. I wait for 10 minutes and this is what the dude did. He went from 135, to 185, to 225. Note this was all in 10 minutes, the dude did 2 extra sets in those 10 minutes. So now I'm like "brah you almost done?" and he's like "I'm feeling good today, might do a few more". I ask if I can work in and he says he isn't comfortable with COVID. At this point I'm getting agitated, but whatever I'll wait a little longer. I'm standing directly behind this dude on the bench just watching him be the biggest fuk i've ever seen. He's taking 5-6 minutes in-between sets and talking with his friend the entire time. So once he gets to 255 and he cranks out a few reps, and then takes 5 minutes. Then this mother fukker starts adding single 10 pound plates, doing one rep, waiting, a 5 pound plate, one rep, then waiting, and this dude even started adding 2.5 pound plates. At this point he's been on the bench for 45 minutes, and I've been waiting for probably 25-30 minutes. He benches 310 pounds for one rep, at this point there's a stack of mish moshed plates of 45's, 25's, 10's, 5's, and 2.5's on the bar. He starts to strip everything off and I'm like seething at this point, and he leaves 2 45's on and then adds a 3rd. Then he walks away and this time takes his bottle and phone with him. I immediately hop on the bench, pull off the weights to warmup with 135 and when I finish my set he's standing over me looking down saying he wasn't done yet. I told him he walked away and took his stuff with him so it was up for grabs. He said I watched him put the third 45 pound plate on and that I knew he was coming back. At this point we're yelling at each other and I told him tough chit, you left, deal with it. I go to put a 25 pound plate on to start working my way up and he takes the plates off the other end. I'm like bro, you better not touch the bar again or there's going to be a problem. He storms away for a second and I put 185 on the bar and I go to start cranking out some reps and this fukker pushes the bar down where I can't lift it. I get up immediately and he's up in my face, and I shove him to the point where he gets thrown backwards onto the floor. He gets up and goes to take a swing at me and at this point the trainers came over and grabbed us. One trainer saw the whole thing and was like "bro you did 5 reps in like 30 minutes, you had your turn." He then stormed out of the gym and said he'd see me in the parking lot later. I finished my workout and he wasn't out there. I figure I'll run into him again so we'll see what happens lol.

cliffs - Dude started adding single 5 and 2.5 pound plates, doing 1 rep, and then rested for 5 minutes between sets. He takes 45 minutes and he walked away to get water and I took the bench. Dude gets pissed and fight ensues.

There's a guy at my old gym that would basically go from machines and back to weights, but he would be set up on a bench and have weights and curl bars strewn out everywhere so you had to tip toe around them

I ended up grabbing one of the bars off the ground and he got so pissed, he was staring at me the whole time

WTF! I'd have lost it to. That's insane. If someone pinned me down while doing a set I'd get up and swing. Even if I expected to get beat down.

Once I had a confrontation that could have gone physical. Story time part 2, This Time Its Personal. (I decided to give it a fancy name)

The gym is empty as fuk, it was a warm spring morning with the sun setting hight as the birds chirped outside. (OK that was to much)

Me and one guy are working out in the infamous dumbell area. He's on one end, I'm the other. 2 spaces in between us. His bench is super close to the rack, so you can't walk by or get any weights in his area. In between his sets I would grab dumbells and put some back on the rack. After the first time its obvious you're in the way and could easily move your bench a few feet back, problem solved.

Its just the 2 of us in this section, no one should need to wait for anything. I'm a little annoyed but get and put back my weights in between his sets.

This happens in every set. Im finished, I just need to put back my last set back on the rack. He's no longer benching. Now he's doing some ab exercises sitting the end of the bench extending his legs in and out. When his legs are extended his feet are literally inches away from the rack. I'm standing there with dumbells in hand. I'm so annoyed at this point that I aggressively drop them on the floor in front of him.

I go in the back and start doing something on the cables. I move on pretty fast from being annoyed. A minute later he lightly taps me on the shoulder, I take out my ear bud and say," what's up?"

He didnt look annoyed or anything and I really didn't know what he wanted. He asks if I'm done with the weights.

He wasn't American, he was some Eastern European guy (whichbI didn't know till then) so his demeanor and body language threw me off. He was trying to be a dick but it took me a bit to get the gist of what was happening.

He says ,"you left them on the floor". Then it clicked.

I say, "yeah cause you were working right in front of the rack and I wasn't waiting. I'll get it when I'm done" I said all of it in a very douchy way then turned back and started another set.

I hated how the conversation started. He was being a douch but in such a polite way it confused me.

This part is stupid, when he left I left at the same time to see if he had anything left to say. This dude probably had 40lbs on me, it may not have gone well, but the idea of him thinking he stood me down wasn't happening.

That was my only outright unfriendly gym situation. The gym is my sanctuary, I dont want to have issues with anyone if it's available.

So I went to the gym today, my nemesis comes in on schedule. I'm doing dumbell presses, on the end bench. A guy is in the bench next to me. Empty spaces beyond that. My buddy waddles over, grabs some dumbells, starts doing some nonsense standing right in between us. He doesn't even face the mirror, his ass is touching the rack and he's facing us talking to the other dude. He does this in the gray zone...not in front of me so I can't work, but much closer then he should or needs to be. You can't make this **** up!

Then I'm in the back on cables. Hes temporarily the only other person in there with me. I finish, go to a machine and put my phone and water bottle on it. Before I even sit and do my first set he walks over and asks me how many sets I have. He just watched me walk right by him when I left the other room. (He's an eye fukker so he didn't miss it) He knows 100% that I'm just getting started.

He's not trying to be a dick, but this guy always seems to be up my ass. It made me laugh knowing I just made a thread about him.
