Went and took a boating captain class, got licensed up, has been working the past 2 months as charter captain for a company using their boats, taking people on tours/island hopping (not fishing) and he just bought his own boat and launched a website and is going out on his own.

Said he wont be making the same $100K per year as his office job, at least to start, but now he is own boss and just lives on the water taking people around partying. Tampa is living the good life with all sorts of new people looking to get out and have fun on the water.

Very impressed at how fast his transition took place, like 3 months ago was walking out and telling boss to **** off and now starting his own company. I think his first charter is next week.

Something like this would be amazing for me if I lived anywhere near where people go island hopping. Especially since my officel job pays $35k/yr...

Neither do I, but I need the experience.

Don't try to think about how much it sucks, just do the job and stick it out until you find something better.


Tbh, I just want to drop everything and go into sales or start my own business, but I'm in no position to do so. Such is life, hang in there OP.

6 months from now, I will be working a totally different type of job (for myself most likely) making atleast the same level of income I am now while enjoying my life and the work I do a lot more

I dont know how much he had saved. His wife is a school teacher, so at least they still had some income and her good health insurance.

Regarding the boat, I'm sure there was a down payment, but he is financing it. A lot of boat companies have long term financing, so its not too much per month. Go to bass pro, you can buy a boat with 10 year financing.

I'm proud of my Boyo, even though I have my own boat, will enjoy taking a booze cruise with the family on his charters every now and again
