Exactly, like the lib dems did with Cameron, if the brexit party/reform party catch some traction, generally the conservatives will bend & adopt some of their policies

Population increase or maintenance is only required for the current economic model to function, that and endless debt. It's not a necessity, we could adopt a different economic model.

This isn't the case for Romani's apparently Bangladeshi's for which the %'s remain at the same level for at least half a decade.
I believe I am not - pension credit is a welfare benefit to top up the state pension to those who struggle to make ends meet (quick gov.uk search shows this), that is why it is related to income, which is all that matters.

That is something reasonable - if things are better then of course it is better than nothing. But at some point, all these people were imported - one way or another - just like Eastern Europeans.

But at the very least from you, I see Romanis this Romanis that (you are not wrong for that ethnic group though, which is <1% of the EU, and probably less than that in the UK lol :P), not Polish or German or Romanian. Which is good.

Not sure why the Brexiteer campaigns focused on the latter though.

Not as long as this model enriches those in power. Tories have already pretty much won 2024 barring a major fuk up. If anything things are heading more towards a dystopia. Apparently a survey said recently like 60% of people in the UK were in favour of UBI

and it should

there is always the argument of:

a) even if the immi is high-skill, if he has 10 kids he can still be a net taker

that can easily be solved by a privatisation of healthcare and schooling - then we can see who is worth what; but lots of right-wing brits will realise they are indirectly on the dole

b) spend as much resources you can on a native drug-addict to reform and become a PhD before taking in one single immi

Key word being 'could'. I don't think much will change it's just hypothetically possible.

I'm fairly certain they didn't besides random uneducated people complaining about low skilled jobs that EU nationals got instead of them. Or besides people in warehouse jobs that don't like hearing polish & Russian & not English. That's not something out of the ordinary though, im sure in Gdansk they'd be irked if an entire warehouse spoke English & not Polish.

that assumption about Gdansk, or anywhere else in Eastern Europe, has a high chance of being correct

good example as well, Poland and Hungary actually have a much higher anti-EU (the political union) sentiment than the UK lol

I didn't realise it was that many, it's increased a lot in recent years. Still they're only needed for the function of an unsustainable economic model based on perpetual population and debt increase.

Explain the British Empire, or all of Europe prior to the era of mass immigration. Europe in its heyday was virtually homogeneous. Your position is just a post hoc justification for mass immigration, nothing more.

What are your thoughts on controlled immigration to the UK? Do you believe it should be 0?

Does the type of immigrant matter in terms of origin?

The British Empire relied on slave labor up until 1833, after that you had indentured servants from India.

On the domestic front you had child labor and poorly paid factory workers. You also had hundreds of thousands of migrants from Ireland and rural areas.

Unless we want to go back to a subsistence kind of living, migrants are needed.

A good example is Virginia on the eve of independence where 1/3 of the population were slaves. The economic system we have has always needed an exploited population.

you could probably make that argument when there was 10 million people living here 100 years ago.

Not when theres 60 million on a small island and we already dont produce enough food to support them, we have to import it

During the referendum Germany was actively encouraging mooslims to immigrate. Once in Germany they can move to any other EU country

absolute crapola

we pay perfectly healthy brits to sit on the dole in this country.

that imported labour will grow old itself and need more imported labour to support it.. see where thats going? We only have limited space and resources.. its perfectly reasonable to cut immigration, put our own layabouts to work and raise the retirement age steadily as people live longer.

100 years ago there was no welfare state in the uk, no pensions, national insurance etc.

if people want the life they are currently accustomed to then you need people to do poorer paid jobs, you're right it doesn't have to be migrants but i doubt most native brits are going to do it.

They are poorer paid BECAUSE WE IMPORT CHEAP LABOUR TO DO IT.

wages rise when you stop importing cheap labour. 2019 was the first FALL in net immigration since the financial crisis, and the first RISE in average pay over that same period.

yes there is a line. No more than 100,000 net a year is historically average, and a lot of people including me would say that is high.. thats two decent sized cities a year increase on an island you can drive across in a few hours.

Who, though, is a lot more complicated. Its not just salary or skills, should we really be taking skilled doctors and nurses from other countries like Portugal that paid to train them? Shouldnt we be training our own people not stealing other countries?
