Is it okay for a dog to tag along on a 2 hour run?

Serious question; I might buy a swiss shepherd/ black shepherd/ wolfdog hybrid next year and I was wondering if it's okay/ healthy for dogs to tag along when i do a 20km run; preferably on a 10km/h pace.

Or maybe it's better for the joints to go on 10km runs?

I rarely see runners with dogs.

I've searched these websites aswell but they are all giving conflicting information/ are vague;
maybe there were miscers running with their dog (worth a shot)

It probably depends heavily on the type of dog you get and perhaps on the terrain. I imagine it'd be better when running in the woods.

Too many variables, such as weather and terrain, as mentioned above. You also have to consider the age of the dog. Make sure its fully mature and growth plates have closed.

Watch the heat...don’t feel like looking it up but something like 75 degree heat to us on the pavement feels like 100 degrees on the dogs paw pads. Would recommend doing half or three quarters of the run and circling back home to grab the pup for the end

This is why sled dogs exist.

Also you should avoid feeding them dry dog food for 24h before the run (go with meat instead). Their stomach will constantly expand and contract during the run and the dry food will act like razors inside causing them to chit blood.

No you nut bag. Your dog doesn’t care to be some elite athlete like you want to be. Take your dog for fun running so he can enjoy nature, not some treacherous run. Dogs are still animals, do you plan for this dog to save lives or anything drastic physically in nature for it to survive? If not then the answer is no. Enjoy your house trained lifestyle dog and let them be happy taking them out.

Sincerely a two husky/wolf owner and grew up with dogs and watching friends growing up and also very serious athlete.
