Just LOL @ STEMcels, sales is where it’s at to make top $$

Seems to be the thing on the mis STEM is the way to go to make good $. While there are decent salaries, sales is a step above.
Especially software sales is king. While not everyone makes it and historically has high turnover, when you do make it the financial rewards are unreal.

BRB without sales good luck stemcels having jobs
BRB commission monthly checks bigger than some people’s yearly salary
BRB more you put in/work, the more you can affect your paycheck = incentive to work

Sales people are at risk. Unless you’re a performer. You will be fired the fastest. It’s also bad for your mental health what sales professionals go through. Too much up and down with no stability. Unless of course you’re a top performer

Top shelf STEMmies typically are working for themselves, at least in my corner of the industry. My peers and I are all incorporated and working as consultants / contractors, so we invoice companies for our time

And the pay is extremely good

Yeah, I’d rather be a stemcel than someone who produces nothing. You’re easily replaceable.

I agree. I have a couple friends make 150k plus per year working 10 hours per week because they have a book of business that they just have to maintain. Sales is the goat career if you are good

I know salespeople who make millions per year.

I know STEM folks who make millions per year.

Neither could do the others job. It depends on your personality. Very few can make it near the top of either. I'd argue STEM is a more comfortable path to six figures even though I am on the sales side.

Exactly, You aren't living the life of I am only as good as my last sale you're just maintaining your productivity and life is on easy mode.

STEM with experience in R&D, Technical Leadership Business leadership, Sales, etc.

Yes, Sales has the highest potential for income at early to mid stages of your career. The trade-off is the at-risk pay component of your income and the liklihood that most companies will eventually increase your quota well beyond what you've brought in and require you to sell 3x your co-workers just to stay employed.
