Scary to think will we matter after a billion years?

People might exist after a billion years, but will our past existence matter at all really?

Lots of pessimists itt

We'll be putting boots on mars in our lifetimes boyos. Setting up on another planet is our next step towards ensuring the survival of our species and mitigating the risks associated with being on one planet. The more we spread out, the bigger and more catastrophic an event would need to be to wipe us out

I also believe this, unfortunately. I also hope humans die off before this happens, srs.

Our species on a large scale is a nuisance to its environment. Really wouldn't be much of a loss if we were wiped out and the residual world was intact.

With the way things are progressing humans will probably go extinct in the next 1000 years. Look at how a flu crippled the entire world. Now imagine nano machines designed to wipe out all life. Self replicating and 100% fatality rate.

No, nothing a billion years ago will have mattered.

And even if humanity as a species survived a billion years, that much evolution and we wouldn't even resemble humans today.

Ditto, in a few hundred years no one would remember or know who Hitler was and his role in the World War 2 or Nazism, even now this is all just survived by the internet which will fade away itself, everything seems like a useless exercise to me.

This. If you put the size of the universe into perspective is expanding to Mars is like obtaining another grain of sand when you hold only one. You also need to realize that the discovery of one microbe on Mars would totally discredit any believe of Abrahamic religions and most likely set the world into turmoil.

In on nihilism thread. Lol at getting mad about Mary Rottencrotch not returning your texts or even "muh legacy."

All humans will be worm food soon. And after that, space dust. Even if we make it another 1000 years before we turn the lights out, 200k years is a blink of an eye.

\It matters as a chain of events.

Everyone alive is related to related to the most distant one celled creature a billion years ago. There are no new people so we are a chain reaching back to the most ancient past. So, all of those lives mattered to get you here today.

People sometimes talk about how short life is and act mature know-all person, but its funny at the same time how strong their need to fulfill their present and temporary ego is, they always want to win over everyone else accumulating to no ending clear victory.

If humans are around in a billion years, they will be so much different from today's humans. They will look back at us like we were just a step above apes.

If they see an archive of the Misc they will be like "How did they ever manage to reproduce, this is pathetic"

Not necessarily. If humans do manage to survive long into the future, there will almost certainly be mass extinction events where >90% of the human population gets deaded and virtually all knowledge is lost.

In a billion years earth will eventually become like Mars. Any trace of humans will vanish like dust in the wind.

If humans do survive that long, then the species will evolve into something else.
