Why don't organisations standardise job roles? [srs]

They should bring the bull**** Big 4 / Big 3 consultants to create a standardised framework of domain-industry-role type for each industry.

E.g instead of random job titles and corporate ranks that can mean one in one company and something else in another.

This allows a lot more transparency:

-- people can compare jobs within/outside their organisation and can compete better (capitalism)

-- organisations who pay well/poorly for the same job will be more visible and will have to do better (capitalism)

-- people can understand their roles and colleagues in the context of their organisation/industry (productivity)

-- people can understand their industry and map their careers better with less stress (quality of life).

Standardisation is why you can fit lightbulbs in different lights and use your USA bank card in Asia.

E.g here is one I made for the IT industry (open image in new tab):

Spoiler!

In this example, a public/private entity can use top to bottom categories for a job listing.

So things like colleges (example college of physicians) or unionizing all jobs?

I can understand standardizing job descriptions/roles within a company but not across industries. If you standardize across industry you are just asking for these fat cats to price/salary fix...

It’s not good for the consumer or the employee when big companies start getting together and standardizing costs.

I agree with engineering standards just not financial standards.

Because companies can choose how they manage their resources?

All of those tools would decrease productivity and employee retention which is against their interest

Can you imagine Google coming to life or even growing to what it is today if some ******* at a government office decided to standarize the way they organize their workforce? fuking lol -just for your awareness plenty of great organizations have grown as a consequence of challenging the status-quo of how things are done

yes, I see but:

a) it can also prove to be very beneficial for its current employees to realise where they stand and be happier + get a clearer picture of how to advance in the current organisation

b) why is it always up the ass from them to our loss in an obviously retarded case; do Americans love it?

I edited the post to add an example how it would hinder innovation.

I agree on point A, its great for the employee, but how does that really benefit the organization? This organizations first exist to make money not to make you feel food
- Happy balanced employees only add limited productivity/benefits to the company compared to a regular dude with a normal emotional state, do not fall for HR propaganda.

On point B, in my organization it is assumed that it is your responsability to design your career path, to contribute towards its successs, to request the promotions, etc. otherwise your career will stagnate and end up in dead-end

First of all, no gov involvement. This can be an industry led standartisation and in the tech world Google cam do it. Google and ******** push for standards in software work and Internet formats all the time as I am in the field.

Scrapping ambiguous workforce hierarchy (as of it matters for the bottom line of a company lol) can bring about more top talent as they can pin point where to compete. There are some obvious negatives but as you said whu should we allow all that?

Only just because you follow more HR propaganda than you suggest (map your career, get that promotion yada yada), doesnt mean there arent clear benefits to pinpointing how your exact role.is done in another place and how senior position seeking can occur - within or outside your own organisation.

Stay chump tbh.

Edit: Christ, the more I thought about Google in the software realm the more stuff I just remembered they pushed, controlles and improved through standartisation making you a little ****bag, is it not? IDK how you do it in the WWE wrestling industry.

People who are doing well do not need to worry about these things.

Keep flipping those burgers, OP.

Rubbish. I do really well and lacking some info could have made me be even better. Info that could be more transparent and less random.

Assumptions made by yet another cuckold with his arbitrary definitions of socialism. Lol

They are pretty standardized in some professions

As for the rest of the world, people don't realize all the nuances and how unique, individual each and every company is, and how complex and dynamic the world is.

And most of all the job each does is very different, and can't be boiled down to one title. Even "first grade pupil" have very different abilities and output, and that's about as simple as it can get

If you get paid badly, it's likely because of the poverty company you're in that can't afford better people. Changing company is probably better than expecting that a web developer in Joe Blow llc get the same pay as Apple Inc

nothing to do with pay

everything to do with transparency

this can even help when deciding if the job is for you, HR/headhunters oversell it because their income depends on it

If all businesses could be reduced to their departments in a modular fashion, and those modules across different companies were identical, then you've put a huge dampener on entrepreneurship and economic progress.

The goal of a company is to innovate solutions better than their competition, standardisation makes such innovation more difficult because you remove variation and freedom to do things in a new way. When innovation is inhibited, capitalism cannot work, and growth is limited.

How does job roles NAME standardisation to pinpoint specific roles in any company relates

Even in your example, which is not related directly to mine, there is some 50/50. Standardisation in some cases increases productivity and growth and since job roles are kind of like adopting a recommended Internet protocol - it has never stunted anything. Nothing stops you from creating your own, popularising it if it is good and then people adopt yours.

This has nothing to do with unionisation, fixing salaries and telling businesses what products to innovate/create/remove.
