2nd language?

Can any of you speak a second language?

I’m learning German due to amount of work available in German speaking Europe (Switzerland, Germany and Austria).

I started during lockdown.

Speak Estonian and English.
A little bit of Russian, a tiny bit of German and Spanish.

Definitely recommend, can't imagine being monolingual.

I studied, Russian, Spanish, French, Italian, German and English aside from Japanese.

I am a big fan of European progressive rock in 60s-70s, so true understanding of the rock music and its lyrics were the initial motivation/purpose for me but now it's both intellectual challenge anddementia preventiontoo, hehe.

No it's not easy, you have to find a serious motive if you want to learn another language. Basically, what is your " why?".
Using apps such as duolingo is ok as a way to start, maybe use it for 1 month then quickly move on to something better than getting good at clicking and tapping on a screen.
I recommend private lessons via skype or other platform, that's the 2nd best option aside from moving to another country.

Studying Korean currently, but need to build more vocabulary. I also study Chinese, but not as much because I can't read that much yet due to the 3000 Hanzi required to read fluently.

Very basic French ("studied" it for 6 years at school, over 20 years ago)

If I was to pursue a language further now, it would likely be German or Spanish. But it's all about the motivation. English speaking people are lucky enough to not really NEED a second language unless they want to emigrate to a foreign nation permanently or for 1+ year.

I know it will be difficult, but I need to get my ass into gear and start some language learning. Find some beginner course online to get myself moving.

Mandarin would be a smart language to learn. Then probably Spanish.

I felt learning German wasn't hard as it's very similar to English. Same with French due to its closeness to Spanish.

Mayan is completely different tho

Ko’ox man káalkunaj baa (meaning let's go get yucky lol)

I want to learn Russian but learning a whole new alphabet is intimidating.

Speaking of languages I was surprised about hoy many people in the US speak at least some Spanish, not just the obvious Latinos but in general people of all ages and ethnicities I came across were a bit bilingual

Saying a few words in Spanish is very very far from being a bit bilingual. The vast majority of people in the U.S non-latino does not speak Spanish.
If you consider that being bilingual, then I highly doubt your abilities to speak German/French at a fluent level.

Pretty good in french when i put in the effort

Its one of the worst languages to learn. Even adults who've spoken it their entire lives make mistakes all the time.

The only reason i now it is i was born in Qweerbeck.

in the US? now I know you have no idea what you're talking about. Those people you met on Discord/ forums don't count as their goal is to learn and be fluent in Spanish.
We're talking about the general U.S population here who does not have a good reputation at learning another language., let alone have a full conversation in a foreign language.

No. Learning a language here in England isn't easy because we get no exposure to anything but English. Most of the internets in English. Even science degree courses on the continent and scandi countries are taught in English now. Schiphol airport has only English signs lmao.

If you learn a euro language and try and speak it there, people get annoyed and then talk back to you in English.

Good luck OP but pepper your angus because German speaking friends tell me these are quite different from each other.
I heard that too but they also usually speak high German. Swiss learn German and gave their own dialect but speak both
