There's an infamous case in Oregon that was like something out of a Stephen King movie. A mother starved, beat, and tortured her own daughter for 15 years before she finally died. Kept her locked in the basement. When she died, she was 50 lbs at 15 years old. GREAT mothering there.

She was the only woman in Oregon on death row, but they reduced her sentence to life because... woman?
Angela McAnulty of Eugene, now 51, was sentenced to death in February 2011 after pleading guilty to the aggravated murder of her 15-year-old daughter Jeanette Maples.

In 2009, Maples was found lifeless in a Eugene home, weighing 50 pounds, dehydrated and with more than 100 injuries. The emergency room physician called it the worst case of child abuse they had ever seen.

I have a fairly large life insurance policy I got for myself. My husband has one too, through his union, that’s reasonable to take care of his kids if anything were to happen to him.

Did he get a policy for himself?

I could see them for a child to take care of funeral expenses maybe

Responsibility isn't an omniscient 3rd person outside of your biology. It's ingrained in your DNA and life experience.

It feels like you are making a decision of your own free will, but it's an illusion. I'm sure the woman in the OP has major brain activity issues (because filicide goes directly against 200k+ years of evolution) and was probably raised in a horror show of a family. She was always going to kill her kid. It was never a choice in the way that you think it was.
