Anyone got their eyes done?

Need to get laser done to correct my vision to pass medical requirements for certain areas

Anyone done it in Australia? What was the price and how'd the procedure go? I did hear it was like $2,500-$3,000 per eye so I'm curious before actually getting it done

Staring at a computer screen for 18 hours a day for three years straight is what caused the vision of my eyes to deter and this happened like 5-7 years ago. Already spoke with the optometrist so I'm already aware on what causes it. I know my body more then you, you pillock

The LASEK procedure involves a little of both LASIK and PRK. Like in PRK, the corneal epithelium is separated from the underlying stromal layer. But instead of completely removing and discarding this tissue, as in PRK, the LASEK surgeon pushes an ultra-thin "flap" of epithelium off to one side of the cornea, where it remains attached to the eye (like the thicker flap of corneal tissue created during LASIK surgery).

After the laser treatment is finished, the epithelial tissue is repositioned on the surface of the eye to cover the lasered stroma, and a bandage contact lens is placed on the eye to keep the epithelium in place as it heals.

what I got probably like 5 years ago, took about 30 mins, eyes were a little sore, but after a 2 hour nap I woke up without any pain and was able to watch tv without glasses. Not AU though

Your optometrist is either an idiot or more likely they listen to you spout some nonsense about video games giving you the myopia you have had since childhood but age has decreased your ability to adapt to, nodded their head because they get told how to diagnose px by px 5 times a day, and wrote out your rx.

It's not the video games you dunce, it's the fact of staring at a computer screen for hours and hours on days for years straight with barely any rest. Might've not 'caused' it but it sure did accelerate it because i'm almost blind as fuk without my glasses when it comes to seeing things far away.

Now if you don't have any actual information relating to what I'm asking then simply piss off

I've literally stared at a computer screen since I was 12 years old 16/7 (I work with computers) and have perfect vision.

Feels good man

Hope you get it sorted srs

You are literally talking nonsense. I don't know what job you do but let's say you are a gym sweeper I wouldn't go online talking about what broom to use.

You are spouting off old wives tales about a medical issue you have zero knowledge or training in.

At WORST, excessive screen time for years on end MIGHT increase your rx by. 25 of a diopter i.e barely noticeable, and that's extremely rare. there is literally ZERO chance of it giving you a high index level rx where you can barely see and require laser eye surgery.

Absoloute pish.

Good on you for having knowledge in something that I wasn't even relating to in my question. I'm personally talking about eye surgery. Yes, I might have been misled in some of my information and cheers for giving me more knowledge of it but primarily I'm asking what entails LASEK

so unless you deal with laser eye surgery, as I said before, off you go

I'm inclined to believe this. I started staring at computer screens since I was 4 (degen zoomer generation lol). I probably have more screen time than 99.99999% of the population but my eyes are top tier. My family all have glasses and only one of them stares at a screen and it's a phone.

You sure staring at a screen is really the cause? I've been a software engineer nearly 10 years and have 20/20 vision still. Your vision deteriorates as you get older, but AFAIK that's due to your lense becoming less flexible with age. Most of my colleagues wear glasses, but most of them needed them before they began their careers. I think in most cases, vision is genetics.

Nah I apparently got my information wrong as per stayhomeneet so I'll remove it from my OP. Well it sucks to know that I have chitty eye genetics but it makes sense I guess since my mother's side pretty much all had glaucoma but good to know that I didn't 'cause' it

Anyyyway, i know quite a few people who've had laser eye surgery and highly recommend it, although i know there is a small amount of risk involved that you may want to make sure you've researched (if you havn't already brah)

I wish i could give more info than that, but since i havn't had eye issues i havn't looked into it much. I just know my collegues who've had it done mentioned 'risks' that were small chance, but big impact - so worth looking into.

Been thinking about it as well, like you my vision only decreased later in life which is not supposed to be common since your eyes are supposed to be fully developed. I think it was either too much near work or too little sun light.

Most optometrist brahs are dumb as fuk and refuse to see both are heavily correlated with bad vision. Stayathomeneet is just repeating what he's been told like a good little sheep.

Look up adult-onset myopia.

The Study of Progression of Adult Nearsightedness (SPAN) is a 5-year observational study to determine the risk factors associated with adult myopia progression.Candidate risk factors include: a high proportion of time spent performing near tasks, performing near tasks at a close distance, high accommodative convergence/accommodation (AC/A) ratio, and high accommodative lag.

I had lasik years ago. the technology has been refined and perfected so much that there is very little risk. A good lasik surgeon will know how to screen you and assess your risk of complications otherwise. Dew it brah.

and yeah I was near-sighted. My vision worsened over the years because I kept playing video games. I played super nintendo games on a blurry TV, had to sit up close to read the text on the screen. I played Game Boy games a lot, all that eye strain was not good for my vision. It's a legit way to worsen your vision. Of course genetics play a role, too, but eye strain from computer screens is a real thing.
