I actually had a very high trafficed warez site back in the day. In 95-96 I was getting 10K hits a month. That was an insane amount of web traffic back then (I'm surprised my internet provider never caught on). I also ran ratio FTP sites. I was known to be the guy who either had or could get any software.

I was lucky to have a very tech literate Dad who believed that knowing computers etc would be necessary in the future, so I started off on bbs sites in the late 80s on a 2400 modem back when most people had no clue that "online" even existed.

I remember downloading cracked versions of xoftspy and other things that would normally cost people hundreds of dollars lol. Paid subscriptions to antivirus/antispywares were such scams.

Those were the days. I remember as a 13 year old kid writing full on mIRC scripts lol. I probably still have them on a backup disc somewhere.

Also used to frequent warez-bb.org mostly for music, which was still alive until recently.

You didn't need IRC for warez though, they were just frequently used together because it was much easier to have a warez channel. Warez was just a term for essentially pirated material back then, sites like warez-bb would upload stuff in .rar format to megauploads etc. Warez-bb was huge, and it was just an invision board with links that only members could see.

Yeah I couldn’t remember, I feel like I used to just have to click links to go straight to a download, used to download movies and software all the time

I remember waiting for a server split on mIRC so I could get OP powers and kick the real OPs as soon as they rejoined.
