if Derek Chauvin appeals...

does he have a chance?

the old crow Biden and hagraven Maxine probably helped him by weighing in on the trial but also read the majority of appeals are dismissed and its not looking good for him

If there were fair courts in the US then yes he’d have a chance. But not in clown world.

Come next year we’ll have a new holiday honoring the late Saint Floyd.

Asked this in the other thread but can anyone explain to me why Chauvin persisted with his knee on Floyd for 5 minutes after he had passed out?

Even though he had a mask on he didn't seem too upset about it, so I'd say his team are pretty confident on an appeal

even with all those police officers , EMT and police chief testifying against him? he does have a good argument but not sure if its enough for him.

Well yea, he knew his reaction was gonna be broadcast on national television so he probably didn’t wanna give people the satisfaction of looking weak/defeated. I’m sure his mask helped cover some facial expressions too.

As to the appeal, I can’t speak to that because I have no fukking clue what the odds are of him winning it.

I strongly believe that the verdict was influenced to avoid America from burning down by the looters and protesters. Just imagine if he was found guilty of only manslaughter? It would be a chit storm right now. Politicians stuck their head in before the verdict, which gives a strong ground for an appeal.

He's got no chance. Even if he wasn't guilty he has to be convicted because of all the protests, riots, etc.
Imagine if he's not convicted.....

This is where the ethical side of things gets really REALLY complicated for me. Just how important do people weigh “Justice” in their heads?

If Chauvin was truly not guilty and they acquitted him, but it resulted in 10 deaths and millions of dollars in damage, was it worth it?

What about if it caused 1,000 deaths and billions of dollars in damage? Would it then be better to just have the jury lie and say he’s guilty if/when he’s not?

What about 10,000 deaths and trillions of dollars worth of damage?

Just what is the price we’re willing to pay for ultimate truth and justice?

These sort of grey areas are what keeps me up at night. Because they seem impossible to answer.

since the democrats like to use blacks for their agenda. they want the appeal to be victories so the BLM autists can go burn down and loot more cities.

CNN et al want this too, as it drives their ratings and views. they don't want this story to disappear

floyd is nothing more than a talking point to push an agenda until the next career criminal of colour decides to go out and break the law on camera

*more whites are killed by the police each year than any other race but MSM don't cover this

I’ve never seen America this divided in my lifetime. Politicians and media continue to add to the fire. Instead of de-escalating situations, they’re looking for the next opportunity to run with something. It’s a sad state.

There is also cost to giving the mob what they want as it will continue to incentivize violent rioting to get their way. It may also cause police to stop policing black neighborhoods which will ultimately cause more crime and more black crime victims.

Absolutely. Thats my whole point.

These past 5 years I’ve become a political unrestricted free agent. Because I see grey areas literally everywhere. Our brains are severely outdated and we’re designed to label friend and foe. It’s an evolutionary defensive mechanism for survival. But in modern day society it leaves us blind in one eye. To the point where we just can’t see things as a whole. We have to label things as red or blue, black or white, etc.

I swear to god, the more I study anthropology, the more jaded I get and the more I realize how flawed our species is. It’s enough to drive me insane yet I keep going further down any dark rabbit hole I can find.

It depends what you value more.

You know, you can be a good man, a just man, you can do everything 'right' and by the book... but if the world you're living in is a chaotic one that doesn't value what you value... then it's gonna be rough if you don't adjust

Makes me think about evolution and how it's not the most intelligent/strongest/kindest/was just life forms that survive... it's the one's that adapt to the world around it. In this sort of case, the world would be the society around it

I think America is headed towards something like Orwell's 1984.

Those that will survive/thrive in such a society won't be the just men/women... the ones that value fairness, etc... the ones that thrive in such a society will be the sniveling scheming type, and the ones that are most susceptible to listening to their masters and whatever their masters say

Anyway, the price is different for each individual, there's no 'right' answer, at least not without a goal attached to it such as saying - "Would it be better for SOCIETY if one guy gets thrown under the bus in this one isolated incident to stop further madness", and they answer is an easy yes... you can take this to the extreme too "Would it be better to hang an innocent man to save society from a nuke that will kill all it's citizens"... well obviously.

It's the problem with sharing/living in a society with morons, we sacrifice our own personal values everyday in order to live in a 'better' society... we don't notice this most of the time, because our own individual values are largely shaped by the society we live in, and the compromise isn't so evident/it's oblivious to us.

Maybe thinking of these things like a bamboo is a fair way of doing so -

If society bends too much to the demands of it's moronic citizens, it will get chipped away, and crumble.
If society doesn't bend at all to the demands of it's moronic citizens, it will snap and break.

And so the strength of a bamboo is that it bends a little, but not too much that it's a wet noodle

Sometimes you have to compromise for a greater good, if you value the greater good.

If you value a particular value, such as... fairness to an individual... ABOVE the value of the greater good as a whole. Then while you may think you're doing good by valuing such fairness to the individual... you'd be damning the greater good.

It sucks to say, I know... but sometimes sacrifices have to be made. This case can be simplified to either - You sacrifice society or you sacrifice one individual. And to think in terms of "But living up to every single one of one's values at all times will be better in the end", but this just isn't reality or true. Take the nuke scenario before... sure you can live up to all your values at all times, but doing so will cause a nuke to come and kill all life.

Gotta be more like a bamboo is this world, else you'll go crazy
