Mortal Kombat was an awful movie

I have no idea why they keep trying to make movies with this franchise. It doesn't work for two reasons

1. The story line at its core is weak. It isn't strong enough for a movie script

2. There are just too many characters in the mk universe. Trying to cram at least 25% of them in a movie is too much. Anything more than that and its overkill.


They need to quit with making this game into a movie.


This would be better off as a mini series with seasons like Spartacus, game of thrones or vikings. That way they can take their time and you can be vested in the characters.

Movie wise its just a rushed mess

I agree with the story line, absolute trash. I didn’t mind all the characters but felt like it should’ve been focused more around subzero and scorpion, not some lame new character

They 100% nailed Kabal imo, that costume was sickk

I want my 2.5 hours back. This movie fukking sucked. It left such a bad taste in my mouth, that i have to rewatch the first one again.

Mortal Kombat Origins: Scorpion should've been the movie with everyone else except Sub Zero left out (some cameos would've been fine).

Agreed this should have been more focused on scorpion and sub zero and just included the other characters from time to time. Just get out of that whole tournament bs
It doesn't work for big screen.

An actual story with the ninjas wouls have worked better.


Also that new kid was plot armor and made no sense

I couldn't really follow the plot line at all, though having said that I was purely there for the violence and gore which somewhat satisfied me.


The real kicker though was the complete lack of the tournament style fights; and that's precisely what Mortal Kombat is! The actual caged, no holds barred fights between Outworlders and Earth-realmers. I wanted to see an actual tournament presided over by Shao Kahn yet something like this never happened, it was more of a squabble between a fraction of the full gamut of MK characters.



And don't tell me a series of ring death matches won't work in a movie; that was the whole plot of Jean Claude Van Damme's The Quest and that movie was frigginawesome.

Bad movie, horrendous plot, and the fight scenes were also bad. They were fighting so slow. Please tell me none of you actually paid to watch it.

Oh, and Cole Young is a hilariously bad character.

i never thought it would be good but just thinking about it... pretty sure it could be good. as in like theoretically and that there's more than enough to go off of to make it interesting

what they'd need to do imo is have it heavily character related. and they'd need to make you invest in the character and then they need to make it like gladiator when you're with them right before the fights

plenty of directions you can take it to make it entertaining imo

Was 5/10 at best. Some of the fights were decent, but the plot either moved really slowly along or then went fast forward real quick (i.e. the last act - they all started fighting way too soon). The first movie was the best because they only focused on a handful of characters from each faction. Do that, add some more in a sequel, and then have a grand finale in the third movie. That's how I would do it if I were making these movies.

I don’t have the attention span for movies. I throw them on and end up messing around on my phone. I loved the original and actually focused during this. Horrible movie, sure chose the right one to pay attention to....

Haven’t watched it yet. The game franchise will always be great even though I don’t play it anymore but as a kid it was goat. They keep going for the money grab and it’s always lame.

Anyone who hated it obviously went in with some expectation.

I knew it would be trash and the movie was bearable for the most part.

Agreed the new guy was stupid. Could've worked out some better story line with the myriad of actual characters available.

MK doesn't need to be story heavy. The original MK movie wasn't great but it did a good job of recreating those characters and giving us some decent action and special effects. That's all MK needs to do, but they almost always fail.
