being a cop is dangerous as **** in america right now

been watching all these fight/arrest/publicmeltdown videos lately. people are getting crazy out there

i wonder if police recruit numbers are decreasing due to this dangerous current climate

It pays extremely well and all you need is a GED. They will always have more recruits then they know what to do with, just the quality will go down.

I just read today that more and more police officers are retiring early and there is low morale among most police officers.

Painters, construction workers, etc all have higher fatality rates than police officers. There wouldnt be 1000 applications for every opening if it was such a **** job.

Trump supporter here. Also think there’s a huge issue that a large % of cops shouldn’t be cops. They abuse their power and think they are the authority over people’s everyday life (the bad ones).


It’s also a very dangerous job. The whole situation is complex and two things can be true at once. Idk how to fix it but I do know taking police out of cities would be a terrible mistake for the non criminals. did a PT test for the fire academy on friday and the chief said the police academy couldnt even fill their seats

One dude taking the test was a current cop wanting to switch to fire because of the current climate.

Cause of covid only 6 people can take the monthly-held test at once so Im sure theres even more waiting

There will always be people who want to become cops regardless of political climate, rifts between the community and the police, etc. /thread. Regardless of what people may think, it is hardest to become a cop in this day and age. The standards have actually increased dramatically, and it is very competitive. I've been in the process with a department for over a year now, scored very well on the PELLET-B, have a Bachelor's with a good GPA, a good job, and i'm still not guaranteed to get into their academy. I'm in California, so maybe the standards are even higher here, idk.

This does not take into account the countless times cops go hands on/fight with people, get punched in the face, someone pulls a gun on them, or attempts to stab them. None of this is recorded when comparing "Total fatalities". Doesn't account for the countless life altering injuries, people being plowed into by a car and surviving. Shot, and surviving. Stabbed, and surviving. None of that.

So to claim its not in the top "20 dangerous jobs" is illogical. Knowing everyday you go to work and you potentially have another person that wants or will try to kill you is much different than you being a dumbass and falling off a steel beam... Or a logger felling a tree onto himself.

Why cant you objectively look at these things and understand clearly there are massive differences?

You post a skewed source to promoted your foolish statement. Feel free to collect the FBI UCR data on officers killed, assaulted or injured. Sort to those on the ground. Lay that out and actually define "dangerous."

You're data misses loggers and steel workers who are assigned to investigate steel working or aren't at the street level at about 50-75% lol

Feel free to fight the fight of hero worship. No one cares who is a police officer in either direction. You *******s politicize us on both sides when we just want to do our job and go home.

Doesn't take into account the modernization of police equipment, vehicle technology, police training and the countless other variables provided in protecting police officers.

Last I looked there was nearly 56k violent assaults on police in a year when a couple hundred thousand actually patrol.

Don't care either way but truth is truth. An FBI agent, park police, Cia police, dod police, isnt the same as a patrolman on a street contacting citizens.

It's funny because I was thinking about this yesterday at work. We were building a new UPS building, and a Sheriff sat in his cruiser across the street for what seemed like 6 straight hours. Couldnt help but think bad thoughts about how easy he is milking tax dollars. No hate though, love the po-po.

Factory works are getting punched in the face routinely? People are pulling guns on them? Attempting to stab them?

Again there is a difference in you hurt yourself due to your own negligence and someone pulling a gun and shooting you/at you. Or someone running you over when you're having a conversation with another person.
