There is a big difference in going to work and dying because of carelessness/negligence and going to work and being murdered because you are at work that day doing your job.

Imagine if someone walked to where you work and shot one of your coworkers to death. Just because they didn't like the service provided or people in your line of work. Then, while your coworker is lying on the ground growing cold, before they even gets a body bag on them. You just have to go back to work because the job never stops. And remember to be polite, professional with the public, don't make any mistakes, etc.

Sounds fukked up? That's the reality of policing when there is a line of duty death.

Just for interest sake a few years ago I applied for one of the regional police forces in my province. Known for high crime and lots of action, and their recruiting was the toughest testing for regular police out there. Written and physical exams were on the same day.

150 started the written. First test was logic, like knowing when certain things happened at an accident scene. Literally half the people were washed out after that. Second was an IQ test. TWO PEOPLE FAILED AN IQ TEST. That was embarrassing. Then the third test was observational stuff like remembering things on a photo, another half gone after that. So out of 150 people only 33 moved on to the physical part.

Of the 33 that started only 13 of us passed the physical as well. I almost didn't, I had to run a 13 second 100 meter and a mile and a half in under 10 minutes to make my points. Thankfully I'm a good runner. We also had to do pullups, push-ups, curl-ups and things like a vertical jump.

But this was the toughest test in my province. All the others were a joke - simple written test and then a REALLY easy physical test. Standard for entry into police college is ridculously low.

Yeah that "unprovoked" angle is tired, old and just flat out wrong. in 2019 5 officers were killed in unprovoked attacks. More officers are killed for not wearing a seatbelt than those "murdered just because they didn't like the service, or people in your line of work".
