You have to understand the very poor demographics, it's basically to help prevent hunger among children, you only see this emphasis in very poor areas.

Because their deadbeat single moms are out buying tattoos cigs and drinks with their government assistance money and dont have anything left over to feed their 7 kids so we all get to take care of it.

It's a double edged sword. On one hand, I'm glad kids are fed. On the other hand, parents should be responsible and take care of the children they have. Too many people are being incentivised to be poor and lazy.

We had a similar debate in the UK not long ago. My view is how f’d up and selfish do you have to be to think this is a bad idea?

The amount of people in here boasting they are earning 100k plus a year. But when it comes to paying an extra dollar or two a month to feed hungry kids they throw a b£&ch fit.

Some athlete did a video last year explaining that closing schools(covid) for him would have meant missing the 1 meal that he could count on as a kid when growing up.

There's no hunger in USA. Average female waist is nearly 39" and guys is 40" or 41". YouTube and Reddit is full of people who can water fast longer than 7 days with just a bunch of electrolytes. Most people can do 3 days without them.

The reality: feeding school kids just means the parents will spend the money on cigarettes, alcohol, drugs or luxury consumer goods. It's all about the economy.

There hasn't been a natural famine in the West or Europe since the 1770s Czech famine. Every famine since was artificial or state induced like that 'potato famines' where the upper class and government refused to feed the hungry with wheat or the USSR Holodomor.

It's not a bad idea in reality.

The problem is: The parents of these kids have like 10 other kids while making minimum wage. Actually, probably just a single parent. Said parent probably doesn't even have a job, except collecting welfare and popping out more children for tax payers and government to feed.

Nothing wrong with feeding hungry children. Everything wrong with this unsustainable welfare system keeping those in poverty, in poverty forever.

remember that one time we had that guy President Drumpf, who wanted to hand out actual food rather than money for food, to those who said they needed it? Those were the days..

you're wrong on that one, bro. These hungry kids will be well-fed with all the school cafeteria pizzas and sloppy joes + Doritos.

How much money do you think that people get in food stamps? Because a lot of people have a skewed idea about this.

Essentially the gov says that you CAN spend 30% of your total income on food, even if you really can't spend that much on food because of rent/utilities. Then they use something called the Thrifty Food Plan to determine how much money you need to spend per month to feed your household [local prices don't matter] and they pay the difference between 30% of your income and the amount you are allocated under the Thrifty Food Plan.

Here is the latest chart:

https://fns-prod.azureedge.net/sites...oodMar2021.pdf

So if you have a full time minimum wage job [$7.25 an hour] for 50 weeks a year that gives you about $1200 a month income. SNAP says you can afford to spend 30% of that [$360] on food. No single adult would receive any food stamps at that income.

Same income and you have 2 children? SNAP still says you can spend $360 a month on food [never mind that with 2 children your other expenses must be higher].

$172.40 female 19 to 50
$108.20 3 year old child
$145.40 6 year old child

$426 total Thrifty Food Plan Budget

But you are supposed to be spending $360 of your own money. So you don't get $426 a month; you get $66 a month in SNAP.

Big whoop. :/

Exactly. Stop calling it food stamps or stop calling it school kid meals.

Call it: "here's a free Xbox", "here's free Alcohol", etc.

Spending is never a zero-sum. If people get free food then that money goes towards non-essentials.

The only way this can't be gamed is maybe if they brought in wards (think prisons) where people can be admitted into if they're bums and then they'll be given 2,000 calories a day w/ water.

Most people don’t make $100K, including me. It’s not about being selfish it’s knowing that most of the kids getting free meals are fat and their parents CAN afford food for them. So why am I being forced to pay for it?

Imagine we need a license to drive a car, to fish (natural thing), a license to get married, a license to own a car, some places even want licenses to operate a drone, etc.

But we can pop out 20 kids even if we know we can't afford it and the government will come in and pay for it all?!

One day they should do an analysis between tax rate and fertility. I imagine there's a strong correlation.

My typical bagged lunch I brought to school as a kid: usually peanut butter sammich, bulk purchased fruit juice, etc. Cost was under $2. I can guarantee it the parents of those kids spend more than that each year on alcohol and cigs.

But of course I ended up on misc so maybe it wasn't good enough. I should had been dining on Pizza and Chicken Tenders from a frozen box cooked in the school's cafeteria.

Is it really about affording food or about irrespnsible druggie or alcoholic parents, who just don't care enough to buy/prepare it for their kids regularily?

I get that argument. But what about the actual kids that do need it? How do we ensure that they are fed?

Also even if the parents can afford the food, but choose to buy cigarettes and alcohol instead, it’s not the kids fault. They can’t help it if their parent are deadbeats.

That's the same argument used for child support but then the money still ends up in the (often woman) bad parent's account.

The best solution is to bring back Orphanages / Wards.

You are part of a society. You benefit financially, have security and no doubt a whole load of other benefits from being part of this society. Yet you begrudge putting back into it?

I get that your taxes are going on things that you don’t agree with. But surely a small amount going towards feeding hungry children can’t be that big of a deal?
