Can straight men be friends (platonic) with straight women? (poll)

Well...can they? I was listening to WBLS (107.5) and Steve Harvey categorically said that is impossible for straight men to be just friends with straight women. There will always be underlying sexual tension.

If the lady is HTC the answer is yes because all it takes is a few hours of hanging out for her to trot off to the bathroom and fart out a ghastly chocolate anaconda the size of manute bol’s forearm then call you in and while you’re hunched over the still smoking clogged toilet bowl aggressively plungering you’ll realize the absolute last thing you want to see is what lives within her underpants

I mean first of all, why would you want females as a close friend?

They are not alley-ooping you hot girls left and right, they're functionally inferior from a physical standpoint, and don't have the same life experience.

Also Steve Harvey is the TRUTH so I don't even know how this is a discussion.

I believe it can be possible however....99.9% of the people who believe they are "just friends" with a member of the opposite sex are straight lying to themselves. I'm about to turn 35 and I can honestly say I've only had one actual female friend in my adult life. So for all practical purposes I would agree with Steve.

There are girls that had lots of male friends since they were little and have alot of male friends now as they have grown up, im pretty sure at least 5-10% of girls are like this.
So how is this not possible?

There is a huge difference between female acquaintances and friends.

A female acquaintance will let her friends know you have a nice car and a solid dink. Female "friends" want an emotional blanket and someone to help them move their chit and listen to their bs about other chads.

Got a snap the other day from a girl I know who just had some light surgery, guy friend came over and is cleaning her yard for her, lmao!

No thanks Joffrey.

Nope.

Even in rare cases where on the surface it appears as just a normal friendship, given enough time someone will develop feelings. Absolutely impossible.

they can be friendly but it would be very unusual for them to hang out alone without atleast one of them being attracted to the other

would you hang out with a hideous woman doing women chit with her? no.

if your woman wants to go "hang out" with another man its over for you

Nop
it’s not.

Unless the guy genuinely thinks the girl is ugly, he will absolutely fuk her given the chance. That’s not a friendship.

I can’t date a girl who hangs out alone with other men. Do I trust my girlfriend? Sure. Do I trust this other guy? LMAO.

There will always be tension or desire from at least one of the involved people. I've known cool women who I was friends with and turned out they had feelings for me.

This. I'm friends with all my friends wives and feel absolutely no attraction.

Ive had friends wives have a thing for me but it's never reciprocated, and honestly just makes me uncomfortable.

But a random single woman? No chance I'm hanging out just to be friends.

If I find her even remotely attractive I’m going to want to bang. It doesn’t mean I’ll definitely make a move, I’ve been alone with sloots in a casual setting without trying to smash, but that’s the exception to the rule.

Lesbians are cool female friends to hang out with though. Not the SJW feminist ones, but the down to earth tomboy/butch ones that act like one of the boys are usually fun to be around.

I dated a sloot like this and at first I didn't understand it and thought maybe it was just a normal thing. After a while I realized somethingg-- ALL of her male friends wanted to bang her but they were friendzoned. Was pretty pathetic she's maybe a 5/10 misc standards sloot with bpd lmao

Depends what you mean.

I think from one persons perspective, it's possible. I've had female friends whom i have absolutely 0 attraction to... however i think that they had some attraction to me.

I think that in this kind of friendship, one person usually views it platonically, but there's usually one who doesn't.

no. and i mean....no

there's always going to be tension, whether sexual or emotional with of 1 of the 2 parties. It's never strictly platonic.....never. It may start out as platonic, but as time goes on....it'll change.

tldr; no
I have found my gains again. Thanks Sam Adams

Because you feel like you are "wasting time"? Instead of hanging out with a guy... it's with a girl. It's no different lol. Women bring a different perspective and vibe to hanging out.

It's easy if there's no attraction. I had a few female friends I'd go to music festivals with or had classes with and it's really not a big deal. I'd consider my close friends' wives/girlfriends as friends because we get along great, except I just don't meet them without my friend being there or knowing about it.

But if there's attraction, it's way harder not unlikely to work long term. Usually the longest lasting male/female friendships involved dating at one point.

With women who I grew up with and knew from highschool or before?
Yeah.

New women? Less likely/don't seek out female friends anymore. No time for new friends in general.

Then it depends on your definition of friendship.
I think to most people a friendship = someone where you don’t have to choose not to try and fuk/kiss/flirt with.
To me it’s very weird that you’re ok with your girlfriend hanging out with guys alone, when they have sexual tension between them. To each their own, and I kinda wish I didn’t care about stuff like that.

There’s a difference between acquaintance and friend, which many have pointed out as well.
