I guess what I meant is I figured I'd rather take my chances with the j&j vaccine than with covid. With what I read about the vaccine I figured it was worth the risk. Its a new vaccine, but the overall 'methodology' of the vaccine has been used for a long time. It's basically just deactivated coronavirus DNA injected into you. Your body's immune system gets a chance to build antibodies, while you have no chance of infection.
There's a perception that the flu isn't as bad as it is, because many people think their common cold is the flu. My theory at least

Almost half of US adults have had a shot. That means that 5k people who recently had a shot will drop dead of random issues out of nowhere. You can't necessarily blame that on the vaccine until you know the number is higher than it should be. And for the record, I think there's some % of the people that will be killed by it (say 0.000001). But I'm not convinced its a high enough % to matter.
