Have you achieved mastery in a cool skill? (e.g. Matrial art, music instruments..

Title.

Are you a life time learner/practitioner of a certain skills that you enjoy & keep practising every day?

Something that takes a lifetime to master and never ends, like a martial art or a musical instrument?

What cool things are you into? srs

Yes learning a little piano and a little guitar.

I'm never going to master either, and I'm OK with that.

What bugs me is I don't have the drive and discipline for them like I do for working out.

That's what I'm trying to work towards.

I can shoot arrows I make through a tennis ball from old school bows (two totally different shootings styles as well) at 20-30 yards with reasonable accuracy. I nail rabbits most shots.

im 46, so my life focus now is just making sure my son is going to be raised right, raised proper, have the tools hes going to need to not just get by in life but excel at it. making sure his education is prepared for, which starts now and that doesnt mean just monetary . but morals and values.

watching him grow up to be a fine and respectful young man is all i want out of life at this point. to say i dont have my own little needs or wants would be a lie. i want to golf, i want when the time is right to enjoy a couple good beers sitting with good friends watching a game at a nice pub some where.

but he is my focus. my life. my happiness. all rolled into one.

I learned to speed read in HS. Now I can't turn it off and speed read everything. I read a page a minute so when I pick up a book and check # of pages, I know exactly how long it'll take me to read it.

For sure. Just built a trenching bucket for my excavator yesterday. Priced it out at 10,000 to buy. Took me 5-6 hrs to weld and fabricate on my own and around $1000 in materials

Built a house last year I got quotes for 500-600k. Did it myself for 250k. Built a 8000sqdt heated shop last year for around 200k. If I had paid someone it woulda been 400k+

Almost finished building another 8000sqft hay barn this spring. Cost me around 50k and 3 weeks. If I had paid someone it would of easily been 200k+

Just a few examples. But almost every day I will build or fix something, and do so efficiently and with quality. Not just building junk that will fall apart in a few years

I think I do this without even realizing. Just read the first and last word in a sentence and your brain can kind of fill in the spaces

You learn to skim paragraphs for important info, cutting out a lot of the bloat. Your brain is one helluva drug

Probably hunting/marksmanship. Anyone can go hunting. But its truly a skill set to be able to consistently locate and harvest whatever you're after. In 26 years I've never missed a deer/big game animal. Never wounded one and was unable to find it.

I learned using the Tim Ferris method. He makes indentations (imaginary or drawn) on each side of the page so that you’re just reading what’s in between the indentations. Your peripheral vision and subconscious will fill in the blanks. I rarely use this when I read though because i read slowly for recreation. But will use sometimes if I want to get through some particularly wordy informational nonfiction

I'm pretty good at playing the blues.

I can also fight and make really good fried chicken.

Right now I'm learning Japanese, poker, and how to trade options.

Always working to improve in some way or another. My attitude towards lifting is self-improvement for the sake of self-improvement. Ancient philosophers like Plato and Socrates were actually really shredded. Their idea was to constantly improve their mind and body while rejecting material temptation.

There is always a new skill to learn and a new challenge to take on. I think one of the greatest skills to master is mental discipline, because it makes everything else possible. If you can control your mind then you can apply it towards anything you please.

I am from Texas myself, I learned to play the blues in Alabama. Proud to be Southern. I played in a rock band once with a guy from Mississippi and he played a mean guitar.

Started working with my dad who had an HVAC business at 10. Full time by 14. Learned everything there is about HVAC/got all my licenses. Then worked as an elevator mechanic for 6 years got all my licenses for that. In my free time I flipped houses, collected a bunch of rentals and built a few houses. Sold everything and bought 1000 acres of land.

That's why I'm building houses, barns, greenhouses now. Collected a ton of heavy machinery on a big farm like this so had to learn how to fix/fabricate almost everything.

That's the mindset that I cultivated too brah.

I love Jazz and thinking of learning the Trumpet to have something to master for the rest of my life. Discipline is the way
