Baristas and bartenders make bank in NYC. But then again, everything is more expensive.

Exactly what I'd like to say in my ideal world. Problem is I go to this coffee shop regularly to get out of house and study.

I'm in Denver. It's getting pricey here though nowhere near as insane as NYC/Bay Area.

Um sweetie I'm not sure if you are aware but we are in a pandemic. every little bit helps essential workers such as baristas and coffee makers, sweetie. If you can't afford to tip the usual $5 for a coffee then you shouldn't be drinking coffee at an establishment, sweetie.

on-topic OP I agree. I went to a burrito shop not too long ago at some kunt was watching me at the register to see if I was going to put money in. I didn't (why should I?) and she gave me some snarky kunt kind of talk about it. Never saw her there again. The audacity, I swear.

Amazing how modern day "education" has turned a whole generation of kids into useless over-entitled narcissists.

I've legit never tipped at a coffee shop. They aren't serving you, they are literally just making you coffee, which they get paid for. Why would I tip?

True bro. Most are absolute chit heads.

BUT, i was the BIGGEST chit head until I was 28 years old myself. I'm 30 now and after turning my life around at 28, i'm far beyond my peers. Nobody believed in me either, but now, it's a different story, I turned $25k into $500k within 2 years.

Things can change once these kids have a solid plan/mentor that they respect.

Yeah they're usually quite stupid. They actually don't realize more revenue goes to wages than it does to bottom line. For example it's quite typical in restaurant business to pay 30% of revenue to staff. Yet the owner probably is left with 5% (if he's lucky and makes a profit at all) The staff are literally getting 6x as much money as the business owner is.

That's the basis of argument against all tip jobs, no?

I agree with you though. I worked retail, hospitality, food & bev, etc and I never could understand why some jobs are entitled to tips and others aren't.

If you're paid to do the job, then the tip should be optional, maybe even discouraged.

They say it's because they "make" the coffee themselves lol.

A server is serving you. They are bringing you your food, they are bringing you the bill, they are refilling your drink, they are bringing you bread or w/e the complimentary item is. They're doing a lot more that warrants a tip

A barista literally just makes you coffee and they don't even bring it to you lol you gotta stand there at the little counter

Did the baristas demand to be tipped that much? If not then how is it entitlement?

If someone chooses to tip you good money they chose to tip you good money, what are you supposed to do, say no?

The barrista complained to her boss that the OP wasn't tipping enough, and also exclaimed in front of a bunch of customers that tipping anything below 25% during a pandemic is unforgivable

Are you unable to read, or are you trying to argue that doesn't show entitlement?

Good f*cking cups of joe too.

The baristas are usually the human interaction aspect that is being sold.

They're like lower class strippers at this point.

"People in their 20s are entitled leftists"

or

"Baristas in their 20s are entitled leftists"

I'm not surprised. Baristas are some of the laziest no-hopers you will ever meet. Not exactly representative of the whole population.

Kids these days grow up knowing that one little viral video clip or pic can be turned into thousands, if not millions. Having a job is time wasted that could be spent making tiktok/YouTube videos or streaming etc.

Yes. Rhetorical question is rhetorical. At least I held a job at a non-profit for over 10 years and don't have debts and have traveled outside state/country a bit.

No trade skill.
No degree.

Such is life I s'pose.

contrary to popular belief not all business owners are rich. Many are struggling to pay their bills and break even.

netting 40K of profits for that year is considered a good business.

When starting a business you should expect to be in the negative for at least the first 2 years.

I don't tip.

Also - up to the owner to give in.

Basically as a manager I just stare at employees and tell them to get back to work.

Gonna cry?

Again, I never made over $40K but have been able to afford a nice middle class lifestyle and world travel..something billions of people in this world don't have the privilege of.

So yes, the problem is with entitled b1tches like yourself.

I didn't say adopt some coffee shop customer and train him to be a model citizen of anything lol.
The reason you think that 18 year olds are narcissistic is because anyone born since 1945 is like that so of course they don't know any better.
Just put them over, help them become the stars of the next gen...what anyone under 70 didn't get, hence why the world is in the position it is today in 2021.
People change a lot in their 20s. Who remains more or less the same from when they are 20 to when they turn 30?
