Anyone do calisthenics training?
Been doing more bodyweight stuff this past year because of the constant closing and reopening of gyms in my area.
Things like muscle ups, handstand pushups, front and back levers are no joke. Much harder than it looks. My joints feel way better than when I was pounding heavy weights at the gym.
I have been considering just doing calisthenics plus some kettlebell and weighted club stuff instead of going to the gym. Anyone make the switch?

I do some, on top of lifting weights and moving heavy chit for a living. Pushups, pike push ups, reverse planks, bridges, supermans, leg raises, reverse crunches, among others.
On quarantine however I did calisthenics everyday and started gaining muscle and improving my overall conditioning and it carried over to when I went back to the gym. First day back pulled a fast 405x3 deadlift and a 300x5 safety bar squat, literally haven’t missed a beat.

Yeah planks and sit ups, sometimes I add weights to these. I've got a few weights at home but they are becoming less useful as I build strength, so I have to find new ways to use them.
Back in the day I'd do all sorts of modified pushups just to increase the challenge and effectiveness. One-handed pushups, diamond pushups, clap pushups, and that sort of thing. You can do serious strength training with bodyweight if your access to gear is limited.

I started giving myself “cool down” days where instead of resting, I’ll do a few sets of calisthenics to target the muscle groups I normally would in the gym. Stopped doing that because it would leave me sorer than just lifting heavy most of the time.

Yup. I did nothing but bench dips, incline/handstand push-ups, pull/chin-ups, hanging leg raises, windshield wipers, & levers for the entire last year due to the pandemic. I lost 0 strength on my upper body lifts. I typically do a 50/50 split of calisthenics and weights.

Up till recently I was doing calisthenics and light DB work for the past couple years. Just started using heavier weights and barbells again. When I was doing this I was dieting getting lean. I wasn’t trying to gain mass, but I found it hard to maintain mass doing calisthenics while on a low calorie diet. I ended up losing some decent size, but my body did feel better.

Depends on what your goals are. But it sure is better than doing nothing. Phucking covid shutting everything down here. The gym in our condo has been closed for a year now. JFL.

Not a full switch, but over the last year I’ve implemented a 15-minute calisthenic set to start off my work out whether it be an upper or lower body focused day. I’ve gotten good results with overall symmetry and muscle proportion.
