This is pretty poor advice which could cost someone a tidy sum of wealth appreciation should they sit aroundwaiting for the dip. Did you know that the S&P 500 has spent over a quarter of all trading days within 2% of its all time high?

A hypothetical thought experiment with three investors who do one of the following:

a) puts their entire allotment of cash as a one-time purchase right at the top of the market before a crash
b) divides their allotment into four equal purchases (buying near the top each time)
c) divides their allotment into four equal purchases (timing the next four crashes perfectly)

Guess who comes outahead?

Spoiler!
It isn't either of the market timers

The point is, time in the market almost always beats trying to time the market. Put the entire amount of money into a low-cost index fund such as VTI if you have a US bias or VT if you do not. If personal psychology does not allow for this then setup an auto-deposit schedule over the course of a few months to take the guess-work and emotion out of the decision. There is a good chance the DCA method will result in a higher overall buy-in costs but it can server to add price protection in the event of a major market correction. How likely that is, nobody knows...

The impulsive side of me wants to sell everything(except for Tesla/palantir) and take what profits I have, then yolo half into AMC and buy more into Tesla each week during dips.

speaking of Tesla.

all the option flow today was leaps.

6/17/2022

$360 strike.

those are all $350 per contract so about $50 million was spent today on those leaps.

someone wants to exercise tesla calls at $360 by next year lol.

random question to all homeowners here. i'm not.

if somebody asks you what's your mortgage payment each month, do you guys include property taxes and home insurance?

or just the mortgage?

ive always wondered this and there is a thread on main misc about how "six figures are poverty" again.

Mine are all rolled into my loan for me so if I told them what I pay for the mortgage that is included. If it wasn't rolled in I probably wouldn't include it because it wouldn't be part of my mortgage.

Don't be mean.

Most investors here gained big last year from growth / tech stocks. Its hard to move away from what worked before. You might look like genius now with oil but how sure are you that is what holds by end of year.

If you want help offer suggestions whats working for you do it.

as TugOfPeace said the market manipulation is mind numbing and people are taking their money somewhere else (in fact i read an article about this the other day)

I am buying solid companies posting solid result and they are still selling off - I am new to this but i hope this is not the norm

why BLNK is down? go f'ing figure

I don't think I'd want them separate its much easier on the mind seeing them rolled into one but that's just my OCD

Anyone here not have them all in one?

market manipulation is taking meme stock and playing around with retail till they want.

you cannot manipulate whole market.

if you look at the strength of the market it has gone into inflation hedging

take any tech stock ZM / AMD / TSLA etc etc

now go compare year to date performance.

CAT / DE / Home Depot / Lowes / FCX / basically any commodity / oil sector etc.

HD is up 20% year to date while Tesla is down -20%.

FCX is up 30 % ytd

STLD is up 65 % ytd

DE is up 25% ytd

I could come up with list x50 everything that is inflation proof is printing because institutions park their money where its safe.

Before you call me out and say I am acting like smart ass. I didn't see this play enough either. Wish I did to move out completely out of tech ie amd will print today its just matter of time.

I don't use escrow. I pay my taxes and insurance separately from my mortgage. I put the money into a savings account that gains me a few measly bucks for a year. Better than nothing I guess, but maybe not worth the extra time needed to pay them instead of just letting my mortgage company do it. It isn't a big deal either way though.

For me it is easier to figure what it costs me to own my home in the long run. I pay roughly $2,000/month with it all rolled in and something like $1200 goes towards my principle so 60% of main costs will probably be returned to me upon selling. Definitely not able to rent anything remotely comparable for $800/month that it costs me to own my home.

that sounds like a pump and dump lol we are too "high" in tech let's "rotate' to a different sector

market crashes and you still need microchips, semi conductors, energy (I am just betting on upcoming tech - I get this one), etc.

ive always wondered this and there is a thread on main misc about how "six figures are poverty" again.
1) that guy is a cuck who is supporting his wife through nursing school and paying a chit load for child care. He's just a potato and doesn't understand that having kids is fukking expensive, as is a wife who doesn't work but is going to school

2) Like Rob said, mine is all rolled into one payment. I've always looked at it like that too, because not including constants like insurance and taxes is misleading and an easy way to miscalculate your true debt.

I should be finding out in the next couple of hours if our "best and final" is accepted. We are most likely over paying, but it is a borderline dream home (super unique in construction and location), and we are comfortable with what our mortgage will be. It's the down payment that is making me sick lol

There is no put buy for that date if they were doing spread so who knows.

I bought TSLA 1/2022 $326 calls. Goal has been to PMCC, and if I hold until expiration, there is a greater chance of retaining some value of those initial calls. For instance my break even would be $635 at exp.

also wtf at RKT getting halted??? Been on calls all morning so haven't been able to pay close attention to anything
