If you had a job offer from SK/Japan/Tier-1,2 China/Singapore/HK would you take it?

Say you work in the professional services and you are a White guy who has like an Eastern EU and UK passport.

If you get a job offer in one of these countries, which results in a pay rise (adjusted for cost of living difference between outbound-inbound country), would you take it?

It might result in a better quality of life?

Tier 1-2 in China means the highest and second-highest developed cities.

I am sorry, this is the misc.

Here we think everyone in Asia works in a factory, in Africa everyone lives in the hut, in Western Europe there is a 120% income tax, everywhere else is communist/socialist/marxist/leninist/stalinist.

Worked in HK, approx 200k usd per year salary.

If you're mid 20s I'd say go for it. If you're older and considering settling down I wouldn't. Cost of living is insane and it's just a complete megalopolis. I'm from London and HK is just something else. No way I'd raise a family there.

I hit 24 exactly a few hours ago

Funny you mention this. I am in London right now.

I need to see statistical data to confirm this statement. The uphill battle is probably the same, whether it is NYC, London or HK. It is not as simple as everything scales proportionally.

We need to run a Pareto Principle on the biggest 3 expenses (that account for 80% of the cost, the other 20% being noise):

a) Taxes and what you get with them (e.g life insurance on top for HK versus UK)

b) cost to rent a parameterised configuration* of housing

c) cost of food etc - we can use the Big Mac Index for this

*most people when they compare to not realise their subjectivity so they get a very inaccurate picture.

I just read the concept of increasing your surface level is a very good thing to do.

Also, Asian women in London have been very easy for me - most of them wealthy, independent and good looking. So I guess HK will be the same?

Hey did you know most public restrooms in China don't have sinks?

They weren't complaining that there wasn't a fuking starbucks nearby, it was stuff like "the air is clean here" and "you have toilet paper in the public restrooms" and "you have public restrooms".

Reductionist argument.

I have been to Shanghai before but only from a tourist lense in public places - since it is newly built it is better looking than anything in Toronto, Vancouver, London, NYC. Public restrooms with self-cleaning (like in Tokyo) toilet seats with a lot of tech-enabled automation.

I am not talking about rural China. That is like making the argument America is a ****hole based on Alabama and the rednecks there.

If someone makes a reductionist claim about the USA everyone will say "hey 300m people, different states etc". Imagine now 1.4B people and different cities. That is why I said Tier 1-2.

I accept the Air argument but it is never that bad as in certain industrial/manufacturing regions.

Singapore can be pretty strict. HK is probably the most lax and accepting of foreigners but there are obviously big political issues there atm. Tier 1-2 China (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou etc) are just as developed as other modern cities in Asia.

IDK, I think Singapore and HK are most strict due to small labour markets due to size.

I think high-skill etc is a must regardless of where you go of these. Bigger pool of options = larger chance
