I used to have a flock of Buff Orpingtons, it was great. fresh eggs were so fukking good. Plus they clean up ticks in the yard. I even saw one of mine fuk up a field mouse once, it was great.

Lucky your chickens can have an open top pin. We have to keep them in a pin with chicken wire over the top cause eagles and hawks. And god knows what else, pretty sure bobcats and get in, and mountain lions but they generally stay away because our German Shepard

They fuk little rodents up, it's a slaughter. Last time I had a field mouse they circled it and pecked it to death then fought over the carcass. Any eggs they eat too they swarm it and devour it in seconds

What’s your feed mix?
I buy it from a local farm store they mix there own

It's mainly corn, field peas, wheat, oats

They mix in other stuff depending what you want I usually get fish meal or flax seed

I buy them fresh veggies every week too and meal worms

It's not totally open top either it's a net material

we have a similar mix, no flax or fish meal. We just added oyster shells to see how that works and wheatgrass. And always get veggies too, pig loves them also

I've seen people do the oysters for that added calcium gains, I haven't done it yet since they lay some hefty ass eggs so far. Maybe down the road I will

I got a watermelon for them tonight, I just cut it half and they circle and have a little buffet

I spent some time on backyardchickens and came up with my own design.

Here's a visiting friend inside it. Very clean and easy to maintain.

Basically I get in there, dump the containers under their roosts, sweep the inside into a wheelbarrel I put right to door and dump it right into compost pile.
Very east cleanup. Literally takes me 2 minutes.

Mirin Op. wonder if I’ll be able to have room to have a chicken coop in my 6000 sq foot lot.


Current house that I’m selling sits on a 8500 sq ft lot. Upgraded house but smaller lot now :/

That's what I do, easiest way to do it.

Shovel up the old hay and cardboard, vacuum up the poop, lay fresh cardboard then hay over it

I love leaving them in a bowl right on the counter.
It always surprises people when I tell them fresh eggs last for 20 days as long as they aren't washed or wet.

Having chickens is so rewarding. Keep their feet dry.
