MISC law enforcement question

how likely is it to get aids or some other std by getting stuck by a needle on the job? Say you're searching somebody or you get into a scuffle and they have a needle on them. I'm assuming it's pretty rare but I'd like to get a realistic answer from someone in the profession. thx

2% seems pretty high, but interesting info

according to CDC, the risk of needle sharing is .6% and less for random sticks, off hand that number still seems high enough to warrant caution IMO

Getting stuck is pretty unlikely unless you are careless. Getting a disease is also pretty unlikey, but possible.

If you search people regularly and its a concern buy some decent stick proof gloves. You won't be able to feel smaller objects/drugs. But you'll be able to feel syringes, knives and guns. I used to wear needle proof gloves. But now typically go bare handed or with latex gloves if they look nasty.


If your on the street you will be dealing with people with HIV/ Hep C for sure.
