Elon Musk uses a PR heavy marketing strategy for his companies. They spend almost 0 or 0 on conventional advertising and marketing is primarily PR driven by Elon Musk as primary source of PR for his companies. It's been extremely successful. This is all about money. Not just about driving sales but also about driving investment, attracting talent, etc. It works very very well.
