Punishment growing up

Did your generation get a belt across the ass when you got out of line? What was your punishment?

Born in the 70s and yep, got the belt at home (or whatever was nearby) and paddled in school.

Didn't turn me into a mental case. Nobody cried "child abuse" - my neighbors kept my ass in line too.

Not a belt, my dad used a the handle of a metal fly swatter to wack my palms or my back.

I personally don't even think corporal punishment is an effective disciplinary measure because all it did was make me even more emotionally unstable, unhinged and aggressive. The more beatings I got from my dad, the more I would lash out at school, get into fights and cause trouble.

A better form of training children to behave would be to condition them psychologically as soon as their infants - which is what my uncle (dad's biological brother) did and his kids (my cousins) turned out great. My other cousins from my aunt's side (dad's biological sister) are even worse than me because their dad would beat them even worse than my dad beat me.

Your logic is that because you were disciplined; that made youchooseto hurt other people

In reality you apparently weren't disciplined enough because you still haven't learned you're responsible for your own actions

Incorrect, it made me think that shouting, fighting, threatening people was the appropriate way to respond to situations I perceived as incorrect. If this were the Middle East or some war-torn part of the world where violence is the appropriate solution to an adverse situation, then that'd be fine.

But in the west, we live in "polite" society where being cunning, subtle and treacherous while maintaining a fascade of politeness is how to get things done.

The exact immature reply I expected; the irony is that you're too immature still to understand that it was your fault & not your father's but you're unable to understand personal accountability

This is why so many young people end up in prison

As kids, we had been playing with our Hot Wheels cars and something infuriated our mom. She picked up a section of Hot Wheels track and started hitting us with it, lol. Normally, it was "Jocko" the paddle.

Got the belt from my old man. Once my mother made me pick my own switch. Once I turned 11-12 the spankings stopped and I was grounded.

I was assaulted several times per year/month depending on my behaviour but none of us cried “child abuse”. We were hard children, unlike the punani parade now a days....

Certain things work with certain kids. Some are fine with a stern talking too. Some respond to punishment. IE no wifi/tablet/cellphone/tv/video games for X amount of time. Some, respond to physical discipline.

I personally think a large portion of parents whip their children the wrong way. You really need to let them calm down. Pull them aside. Explain to them what they did wrong, why its wrong. And that you are going to discipline them for it. That you're going to hurt them, because you love them. Then, they should count aloud each strike. You really don't need anything excessive to start 3-5 with a belt.

I've been in law enforcement a long time. Been to a lot of houses to assist with out of control kids from 8-16 years old. Typically when they are older then that parents just give up and no longer give a F. Also been to a few houses where parents are actually afraid of/intimidated by kids that are around 12-13 years old. Those people NEVER spanked or physically disciplined their kids. Those kids still ended up violent/forceful. Enough to assert their will over grown adults. These are the same little fukkers that are causing crime issues and are fighting/disrespecting the police. Then their parent want to lie like they are some little angel. 99% of the time these same losers have police calls/reports on file because they can't control their child.

And you better pick the right one. You don't want them going out there and picking a log to whoop your ass with. Can confirm, first and last time. I don't think my mother treated me as good at any other point in my life than she did after whooping my ass with a switch.

There's no need for physical violence as a means for punishment.

In today's world, you just take away the kid's gadgets and that'll bring them back on line real fast. Tried and tested when I was raising my teenage niece and nephew.
Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;
Thus unlamented let me die;
Steal from the world, and not a stone
Tell where I lie.

Mum's slipper on the arse. My sister and I knew when we'd gone too far and would often leg it upstairs to avoid what was coming. It never really hut it was really the shame of getting smacked.

UK is cucked, Scotland recently actually outlawed smacking of kids, lmao. Good luck reasoning with a hysterical 2 year old hell bent on doing something dangerous.

Plenty of times. I remember spending some weeks with my aunt and uncle. I got in trouble at their place, got whooped by them, then when I went home a few weeks later I got whooped by my parents for getting in in trouble at my aunt/uncles place lol.

Stayed with my grand parents when my parents deployed to Saudi. Grandmother had rose bushes outside and me being a dumbass I would go pick the petals, she would then proceed to take the switch off that I pulled the petals from and whoop me with it. Thorns hurt a lot.....

I got smacked but grew up to be a little ****. No father figure to sort me out.

My gfs father has raised two amazing, classy daughters with values the misc would admire (not slooty).

He did it by having a line in the sand where privelidges were taken away with out that count to 3 bs but was otherwise very chilled out, not overbearing or strict.
