their actual argument is that slavery still has effects on them since their previous generations didn't have the same opportunities as whites, therefore they are still in poverty due to the after effects of slavery

for example

white family from 100 years ago was well off, or had better opportunities as white immigrants, therefore their descendants today are well off

black family from 100 years ago was still discriminated against and therefore had fewer opportunities, therefore their descendants today aren't as well off since money wasn't passed down from previous generations


kind of like how the saying "they come from old money" only applies to whites

Yeah it's a dumb argument... so many white people who escaped communism to immigrate to USA, Canada, Western Europe and most of them did not got rich/do well themselves but a generation later their kids are doing very well because they got a western education and capitalism allows them to profit and capitalism doesnt care about class structure. My family didn't escape communism but they were peasants working in the mines in england before they came here and they obviously struggled even after they came but my current generation (2nd generation) is doing really well around 75% of us are earning 100k+ salaries.

So many groups have crawled their way out of really bad situations (Thank you capitalism) and it usually takes a generation but it has happened with so many groups... without any help... but I don't think any of them sat crying in the corner blaming the system.

Some blacks are that way but bro it’s not like most of them think that way. There’s just as many if not more white wokesters reeeeeeing about this than blacks. It’s about their virtue and proving how open minded and diversified they are. Most of us have slave ancestors at some point in time from every race. None of my black friends have ever ‘cried about slavery’ to me. They don’t bring it up because none of us were even close to experiencing it.

Funny thing is not a single African cries about slavery it’s only westernized blacks who failed in life.

Down South we know how Jim Crow works, and we don't pretend it doesn't exist. White owned businesses, which includes virtually every single bank in the US, will deny black folks from jobs/home loans/business loans/access to real estate and other things white folks take for granted.

After the Civil War, Jim Crow was invented to keep black folks trapped in a cycle of crime, poverty, and imprisonment. A lot of freed slaves were scooped up and put directly into prisons. By the letter of the law, prisoners are slaves, and a lot of descendants of slaves are kept in this cycle. Even the black schools, which were never really desegregated, put the kids in a school-to-prison pipeline.

So a lot black folks get cut off from normal society and jobs, which is why the ghetto exists. It's also where you'll find poor white folks and non-Christians, in the city at least. In these places your only hope of getting paid and surviving is often crime. The rest of the country adopted Jim Crow after the Civil War because the rest of the country practiced slavery. It's just the most obvious in the South which is where most black folks live. This system was put into place to preserve the system of free labor built on millions of African slaves.

So that's how Jim Crow works and that's why people still make a big deal about segregation. All the cop killings on the news are not new developments, cops have been killing black folks freely for hundreds of years. Modern police are direct descendants of slave patrols. People in the klan will actually go out hunting black people like animals and get away with it. All this stuff is a product of slavery, and slavery never ended, it just took a different form.

There are exceptions, I have white family that did life in prison, I have non-white family that are successful in work/education. For the most part though, prisons are filled with non-white people who are legally slaves. Maybe this helps you understand why people still talk about slavery. People don't have the balls to talk about this history so it gets forgotten and washed out of people's minds. I think it's good to know and understand the history of your country, even if it can be extremely dark.
