Stock trading is structured for very good reasons brah and I don't think that'll ever change. Are you actually talking about liquidating stocks on a whim to purchase goods?

You know speculation has gotten way out of hand when people start talking about selling pieces of companies to buy a fukn bag of groceries

You might not be able to buy stocks afterhours since the exchange is closed, but there is early hours/afterhours trading which is pretty much the same thing (though I'm a complete noobie when it comes to stuff like this and can't tell you that much)

And agreed about the finance industry being antiquiated...the whole system of ACH is based off of trucks mailing tapes to a central clearing location. There's no more trucks/tapes but the system still works the same
Ah okay, well sounds like i have some reading to do about some of the updates institutions like vanguard have made. I know it only was recently a thing they started allowing the purchase of fractional stock shares which was also a much needed improvement.

Anyways, I would never suggest someone go "all in" on crypto, but depending on someone's risk tolerance, I'm all for people at least dipping their toes in with 1-3% of their portfolio and for the more high risk people 5-10% is where i would tap out at.

Anyways, I suggest you or anyone if curious enough should read up about the potential possibilities for cryptocurrency, blockchain, smart contracts, and internet of things. I personally find it pretty interesting. Especially since all this was originally used to be outside government control and power, but most of this technology could VERY VERY easily be introduced to actually track absolutely EVERYTHING we own and EVERYTHING buy/sell and EVERYTHING we do in a much more efficient way than our data is currently being tracked.

All gaming items that gaming companies make millions off can (and likely will) be turned into NFTs, and in order to use the items in game you will need to own the NFT. I've also seen companies working on using NFTs to verify ownership of high ticket items, real estate, etc.

Gaming is beginning to embrace blockchain tech, and will likely be the first part of the crypto industry to go mainstream, IMO.
Yeah blockchain is an argument but what's stopping the US government from making it's own digital currency with blockchain capabilities that involve smart contracts also?

NFTs seem like such a scam to me. Imagine have a piece of digital art in your home and the only way to display it guests are to have it projecting on your 55 inch tv or 24 inch monitor 24/7. Sounds like a waste of electricity. But, kudos to those who made millions off of selling clipped YouTube clips into NFTs.

Personally I’m still very far in the positive with crypto. There are ups and downs in every single market, and crypto is a long term investment. I’ll be sure to come back ITT and lol at OP after the market shoots up 30% soon, but he’ll already be in hiding along with the other nocoincels by that time

There are tons of ways to make money, crypto is a tiny (truly minuscule) little sliver of it.

Did you know the global bond market alone is worth an estimated $119trillion?

And this is where opportunity cost comes into play, hodling crypto means those funds are tied up when they could be used to generate more money in other ways. Which is fine if that’s your conviction, but trying to incite FOMO with terms like “nocoincel” either means you’re ignorant to all this other stuff or you’re trying to prey on other people’s ignorance.

I wouldn't consider crypto to be a long term investment at this point in time. Yeah BTC and ethereum have practically outperformed every stock but an unregulated market that has thousands of worthless coins that can pump or dump 1000% in less than a week seems more like a day traders market to me.
You can't gauge crypto like you can with stocks. Companies like Microsoft will never go bankrupt and continue to innovate and supply products to the world. They will continue to generate revenue and have balance sheets to back up their market cap. However with crypto long term, it's either gonna make it or not. Putting an insane evaluation on speculation is a gamblers market. Whatever the case, as long as you make profit, then good for you

The US will make it's own blockchain crypto. Smart contracts may be a part of it too.

However, many non-gov crypto is cross-border and decentralized. A US gov blockchain will only be to serve US dollar and US backed assets, it will also be centralized and every transaction and all data on the network will be tracked and stored by the US.

I tried to explain that NFTs have bigger capabilities than digital art, that is only one application.

#1 reason would be that you need someone on the other side buying your shares at that very moment

Shares represent pieces of companies, they're not a medium of exchange. And because companies are supposed to be valued based on a set of fundamentals, like revenue and profits, stock trading is structured in a way that's meant to help ensure people have all the information they need in properly valuing a company. Companies can't even issue quarterly financials etc during trading hours.

You dont think securing the international financial system from central bank/government/ anyone manipulation deserves electricity - you see no problem with what is happening to currency's all over the world right now? massive asset bubbles in nearly everything?

Pretty sure any blue chip stock has more than enough people willing to buy that share at any moment. The liquidity in the market is there to handle the buying and selling of majority of stocks just fine. So i think your number 1 point is kinda moot.

Right now my quantity of my stocks is stored as some data electronically, and it's value compared to currency is constantly calculated, and if i went to sell it during trading hours, it would take me all of a fraction of a second to have a buyer of a share of Verizon paying $57ish for that share. So i still don't see the big deal about having some "Ameritrade Debit Card" that liquidates a share for me to pay for my groceries when i swipe my card through.

I don't see how that changes the company's value fundamentally? People liquidate company shares all the time for all sorts of reasons that have zero to do with the company itself. And there are always buyers waiting in the wings.

Also why cant a company issue a a quarterly financial statement during trading hours? If trading hours were switched to 24/7 you could still have a "close" date and time to the quarter even though transactions are constant.

Companies can't issue quarterlies (and do any number of other things) during trading hours because the regulations are there to provide a structure where people can expect a reasonable opportunity to digest data before making decisions with their holdings

But you certainly won't care about any of that if you're suggesting a card that assumedly executes a market sell upon swipe/tap regardless of current price much less underlying fundamentals

But you certainly won't care about any of that if you're suggesting a card that assumedly executes a market sell upon swipe/tap regardless of current price much less underlying fundamentals
I guess I don't. How is anyone missing on a reasonable opportunity to digest data? They are free to read the results as quick or as slow as they wish before making a decision based on their holdings if they wish just as they are free to ignore any data when buying or selling. Most these companies you hear about their projections and other updates all throughout the quarter anyway and if you really want can have a good idea of which way it's heading before the end of quarter already.

I guess we just disagree, but in my eyes it seems unnecessary to prevent people from liquidating their holdings as they see fit.
