All my friends who went to college for something that actually teaches you skills are doing fine. If you take out 250K in loans for Art History degree that's your fault.

Society and especially boomers were promoting the idea you had to have a college degree to find any decent work and because of this many people just went to college and got sh*t degrees, people who actually didn't belong there.

Well, the recession was 09. That was right when i was graduating high school and my gparents had lost so much money they refused to cosign a loan for college for me

Not saying that explains everything but could. Ive had 3 friends die, all were around 20-25 and i cant help but think the recession prob had something to do with it

The proportion of STEM degrees has remained similar since the 80's. And high-earning degrees have been growing. The fastest-growing degrees have been Computer science, Business, and Healthcare. The fastest-shrinking have been history and education.

This is a good point. Most of those types of articles say on average or historically or something along those lines. If you’re averaging those making millions from a law degree or stem degree then yeah that makes sense. I highly doubt someone with a liberal arts degree is making a lot more than the median annual income in America.

I think it was Jordan Peterson who said something about a significant percentage of our population not having a high enough level of intelligence to serve in the military; an organization with plenty of low-level scut work with very detailed instructions and regular supervision.

In my grandparent's generation a man could work a basic labor job and keep a wife and kids housed and fed. It wasn't any kind of luxury; one car, maybe one TV, none of the entertainment services and electronic toys we have now, but everyone slept indoors and got regular meals.

Now when if you adjust for inflation + non-salary benefits [fully paid medical/dental/life/pension] the upper level college educated STEM professionals are making roughly the same money as a factory worker for a big manufacturer w/10 years on the job. And that factory worker was able to start right out of high school with no student debt.This really blew up in the 90s when my working life was starting. Employers did not care what your degree was at that time, just that you had one. A bachelor's degree was attached as a requirement for something like 90% of corporate jobs. All you actually needed to know was how to dress well, conduct yourself professionally, and use Windows Office.

people can call millenials lazy, entitled, dumb or whatever but the fact is a dollar doesn't go as far as it used to. Sure we have a lot of luxuries and conveniences that didn't exist back then but society has oriented itself around these new technologies where as simple things like rent/housing, food have gone way up. I remember a house my parents bought for 150K 25 years ago has more than tripled to 650K right now. Area is still basically the same as it was back then. It's pretty insane.

Wife doesnt work

Have one base model truck with no accessories
No cell phones in the house
No cable/streaming
One TV in the family living room
Kids wear hand me downs
Rarely go out to eat and going to Dairy Queen once a month is a treat


The same lifestyle and opportunities the vast majority of boomers "enjoyed", exist today. All it requires is that you live like they did.

Im an older miscer and I grew up watching my parents generation and I LOL at the idea that they had it easy and that money and opportunities were falling off of the trees. The literally killed themselves in factories with no regulations, no HVAC, etc.... Everything this generation enjoys today was created because their life was awful and brutal.

This generation sits in HVAC controlled buildings, sipping on a Starbucks, while complaining on the internet on their smartphones about how awful they have it. They wouldnt last a day in the society boomers lived in.

Yup but problem is boomers live longer than previous generations. So inheritance will be much later in life for millenials/gen z

most of them are spending their money before they die or they already spent it on their kids and grandkids now. there won't be any boomer money left.

The Boomers and Gen Z are super obsessed with keeping up with the Joneses and they passed that down to their kids (Millenials and Gen Z).

Once you break out of that mindset it's insane how quickly you rack up wealth. Buy a used car, keep the same phone until it dies, avoid Apple Products and other 'designer' brands. Avoid fads whether it's clothing or meals out or gadgets or whatever.

Also young people nowadays seem to be avoiding marriage which is a disaster both financially and for building wealth. Since I got married my wealth has increased exponentially. With our combined incomes we don't ever have to worry about bills or mortgage payments etc. My wife let's me handle all the finances so I keep her on a pretty short leash when it comes to spending as well. To be honest training her to understand the value of the dollar was harder than training myself.

I suspect drug use is a big part of the problem too. I smoked pot pretty heavy in my teens and 20s and I came out of that period with no hopes or dreams. I just floated through life.

Now I haven't touched a drug in years and I have highly developed 5, 10 and 20 year plans and I focus a ton of my free time on them. I'm building towards my future whereas when I smoked pot I just lived for today.

Those are just off the top of my head.

LOL 90% of boomer wealth will be siphoned up by the healthcare-industrial complex. A good nursing home runs $10,000 permonth. The only boomers who will pass something on to there children are the millionaires, and event that's not guaranteed if they die of a long, painful, expensive disease.

Honestly that's what I'm working towards. The problem is now the jobs don't exist in those small towns so you retire to them instead of living in them. I plan to retire to a small town (or ideally outside a small town) by 40.

Find me a <100k standalone 2-bedroom house in livable condition. I'll wait.
