Do people even consider the demand of their degrees?

And by people, I mostly mean women. I see tons of women around here lately going to school to be vets. Like how many fukin vets do you think a town needs?

Or better yet, a ton of women around here going for masters/doctorates because they realized how fuking useless their bachelors was, so they double down.

Retards getting degrees in whatever they think they'd like, rather than catering their skills to the demand of society.

Women don't need their degrees to be as 'in demand' as men. Many are hired for their looks alone.

In my opinion, anything you choose is a good choice, if you try very hard to be the best, and is passionate about it.
The issue is people - and yes especially women - studying for degrees with almost no real world demand, AND they half ass it.

If you’re not going to try and be the very best, you should pick something safe, nurse, teacher, etc.
Real Madrid, Miami Heat, New York Jets.

Yeah, about 2 quarters into my Biology degree I decided to google Average salary of Biology degree Grad and dropped that **** ASAP.

Which is sad because it's a fairly difficult degree and pretty applicable too.

I know a person pursuing a PhD in bio, she told me she never expects to make over $70k/year.

It's actually very difficult to get a good GPA in bio at a respectable university.

Same with Biochem/Chemistry/Physics/Mathematics = all hard degrees that you can't make much with alone.

Knew a guy with a Physics Degree from Berkeley that was delivering pizzas for 2 years after graduation. Eventually realized he couldn't do anything with it and went for a Masters in EE.

There are not many degrees that really have a big demand - very specific areas like the sciences and engineering. But if you are planning to get a non-specialized office job, they don't care about your degree.

Who said the rest of your life? But you can still make an informed decision on what will likely work out for you for at least a short-term. Better than getting a worthless degree that doesn't even work out at all.

Degrees should be for life IMO, short-term is what you should do leading up to your degree. If you're taking on multiple sums of student loans to pursue unrelated degrees, well that's not very efficient

I'm with BLOATMOGGER, most people aren't gonna be ready to assume debt that large + consider the financial ramifications of their choices until they're 21+

The first port of call for any high school student re: uni are government shortage lists and job ads. This 'follow your dreams' chit needs to end.

My entire Bioinformatics MSc were biologists who were unemployed. Very few of them cared about coding or stats. Most had £40k debt living at home. Even if they did get employed it would be min wage lab bitchwork.

I even heard of a lab here that moved premises to be closer to a cheapo living area to enable the workers to get to second jobs more easily. These were all bio BSc or MSc workers. Stay the fuk away from bio unless you can code and know your stats.
