longevity aside - how is this not just asking for a debilitating injury in the immediate time frame

Clarence Kennedy has said some pretty insightful (imo) stuff about realistically, any sport at an elite level isn't healthy/good for longevity.

this lol, any physical activity done at the highest level isn't great for your body

with that said, powerlifting (at least raw) is probably on the lower end of injury when it comes to "sports".

- football you'll probably suffer multiple concussions/symptoms of CTE if not a tremendous amount of physical trauma to your body
- fuked up knees and ankles are so common in basketball
- messed up knees from marathon running
- olympic lifting and strongman sees more injuries than powerlifting

also competitive/elite powerlifters rarely max out on their lifts, if ever in the gym. Usually if they do, it's probably during an offseason or for social media/attention-whoring/ego-stroking. Probably mostly the latter. Don't mistake powerlifters for instagram lifters, who is what this guy really is. Going balls to the wall every week is retarded and any competent powerlifter who knows what they are talking about will tell you that.

However the guy does have a strong deadlift, I'll give him that.

It isn't. Pressure on the body and lots of powerlifters are overweight as they have to consume tons of food.

It's not done for health though. They do it because they have a goal.

I like how you're asking a bunch of non lifters on the misc instead of asking the guy you posted directly

I could see low-impact sports like swimming and cycling being decent for longevity. If you're not on that special sauce (which they all are).

I've heard Lance Armstrong would have died from his testicular cancer, if he hadn't been in such insane physical shape from cycling.
