Metabolism question

When in a calorie deficit, how long does it take for you body to adjust and have a different slower metabolism?

a few weeks is usually what it takes for your body to physiologically start losing fat/muscle. then it takes a few months for your metabolism to adapt to that deficit

since being in a caloric deficit aka a catabolic state isn't an on/off phenomenon, your body will adjust it's hormonal response/TDEE overtime.

Let's say one doesn't do any physical activity and once resting metabolism is 2000 cals, what would be the optimal calorific deficit and for how long to avoid a slower metabolism?

it's impossible to avoid a slower metabolism unless you're on androgens. it's getting even worse when you're not doing any physical activities since you'll be 100% sure losing muscle (which is the most thermogenic tissue in your body by the way).

the optimal caloric deficit is of course the smallest one.. (<500kcal).

and how long depends on you. i mean how long can you sustain on a <1500kcal/day diet ?

If you stop your dit, how long does it take to get to your normal metabolism again?

good question, I remember reading some papers studying ex-obese people who +- maintained their weight loss 5-10 years after, they never recovered their basal metabolism. the best strategy would of course be to put on some muscle to compensate for slowed-down metabolism.

but yeah, unless you gain back all the weight that was lost (and even then I'm not sure you're getting back to your basal metabolism) your metabolism will be slowed down
