How do Corporate Finance brahs who think they work in business and are revenue-gen...

cope?

Literally a function of a business as much as any other function.

"Corporations can't run without money."

Uhm, yes, but the money/capital is usually provided by PE funds and Investment Banks in a deal.

Also, businesses can't run without people - does that mean Human Resources is GOAT?

Where do I acquire these elite-level coping skills so that I can find peace and be content with nothing?

As far as jobs go it certainly can't be the worst. I'd imagine most of them make 6 figures and are relatively free of stress.

What's so bad about a cubecel job working 40 hour weeks to make 6 figures?

And there are not "a lot" of jobs like that. Most 6 figure jobs require you to work a lot of hours or go through a very tough selection process.

worked in m&a/ib and I have no idea wtf you are trying to ask with your gibberish but i'll take a stab at it...

front office roles generate revenue - ib, sales/trading, wealth management, etc. This is the product/service for a financial services institution.
capital raises are not considered revenue. PE often times just strips out back office chit and piggy backs off their portfolio companies software/team/resources.
back office like hr is a cost center and can be outsourced or even removed all together. Let's admit, it's just a bunch of larping sloots.

corp finance is like over glorified accounting

obviously it's a bit more detailed but you get the gist.

Edit: if you're commenting on the lifestyle, it sucks. lots of hours and most of the time not worth it unless you're a big swinging md at an IB or running the show at a good PE fund as you would expect. The rest are just larping. srs

Yes IB, sales/trading and asset management in funds and banks is a revenue generator.

I am talking bout Corp Finance in a Fortune 200 like energy or a tech company. Many banks have also back-office and middle-office like treasury, accounting and risk. That is all glorified accounting, as you have put it out.

The only real revenue-generators in companies that are non-financial institutions are like Sales guys.

What's your take on software engineers in a pure tech company like Google? I still think it is a cost function (just like corporate finance/accounting/HR) and sales are everything.

Of course it is. But what's wrong with that?

yeah pretty much sales guys like you said. Lots of the associated I worked with at PE shops wanted to leave for sales. Once you see other industries (which you do working in IB/PE/HF) then you'll see that the sales guys are the moneymakers in other industries. We had a client that sold racks for data centers. Hired a former accountant that was making like 40k at a big 4 and the kid made like 500k his first year. srs.

Software engineers is cost as well. They don't interact with customers/clients. It's like the people working to refine the oil. Still a cost. Their advantage is a good skill set they can use to develop chit on the side.

Yes, most software engineers mistakenly think they are because their skillset is the one that builds the product, although a product without customers means jack.

However, when you exclude funds and banks and their associated products as you mentioned, corporate finance and stuff like risk sound all non-revenue generating and corporate finance and accounting department sound interchangeable?

So, the thing is, how can a corporate finance VP cope that he is not an excel/report jokey that has nothing to do with a rev generator in a fin institution.

Pretzel cart guys have got it made in the shade, now that is a business that operates perfectly. Just a guy with a heated card full of pretzels. Don't need rounds of capital raising, HR, accountants, sales, marketing departments, executives, software developers, public relations, or any of that.

Just gotta park your cart in a busy place and maybe yell "Pretzels!" every now and then. Collect cash, distribute hot pretzels, wheel your cart back home.
Beans. Cleans. Gasoline.

idk i think everyone is larping. Whatever helps them sleep at night. Just know the difference and what your reality is and do the best you can to work towards what you want your life to look like. I know coping back office vp's but i also know m&a bankers that are overworked alcoholics with cheating wives. All relative.
