NBA is officially DEAD (ratings)

[Cafardo] ESPN's exclusive telecast of last night's Lakers vs. Warriors NBA Play-In game drew an average audience of 5,618,000 viewers, peaking w/ 6,149,000 viewers from 12:30-1am ET. It was the most-watched NBA game on ESPN since the 2019 Western Finals & up 190% v 2020 Play-In on ABC.




In all seriousness it def has to do with Lebron vs Curry, new format, being back to "playoff" basketball, and getting back to their normal schedule instead of COVID having to make it jump to fall/winter

This was also a West Coast game getting these numbers, game didn't even end till after midnight

Watching pro sports has been especially surreal since covid. I think that's why fighting has become increasingly popular, the camera is focused mainly on the ring so you can't tell that the sport is in covid mode.

Stopped watching nba since their virtue signaling, bml bs. It became unwatchable for me and haven't watched a single game since. Also, realized they're more of china's league. I don't like china. so...

just like baseball, basketball is fun to play but boring as hell to watch. there's a million long slow boring meaningless games in a season that lasts forever. i only watch the NFL and the UFC today.

NBA games are always on in the background of my popular gym but I've noticed nobody pauses to watch the games any more.

Shocker, so as we've come to find out nobody gives a **** about regular season nba anymore, at all. Because it's ****....

People still care about nostalgic games (Lebron&Curry) and people care about "play in" basketball do or die type games? Shocker. It's actually meaningful and players seem to actually be forced to 'play'.

We'll see how the actual play offs continue. Should be some good match ups so I hope they are exciting.

This really blows the top off the "people are still watching, just different forms of media! That's why ratings are down!" excuse. No. People aren't. They are just choosing not to watch a **** product, once a "good" product shows up again magically people start tuning in again.

The NBA is pretty unwatchable. Let aside the social justice warriorism, the game itself is so boring. Too many time outs, too many fouls, no flow, last 2 minutes takes an hour to play, first 3 quarters mean absolutely nothing. I've tried to get into it but it's such a soft sport. Great athletes don't get me wrong, but damn is it boring asf.

Definitely something I can agree with.

90's was fraught with players acting/being criminals. NBA was definitely cleaned up its act. Assuming it had a lot to do with the highschool straight to nba thing (which I'm all for it, if you're good enough right out of HS to play, let them in), but players didn't get that extra year of personal growth/becoming an adult. Along with teams probably not giving out the resources/assistance in the ways they do now.

It's because there are a lot of high schools specifically for basketball and they usually are nice high schools. It gets them out of the hood if they are from there, so they are just a bunch of spoiled feminine brats instead.
