Alright so Im buying a guitar

I initially wanted to buy drums because I love drums the most and I would really love to learn to play them but the ****ed up thing is I dont have anywhere to play them, I just dont have the room for them.


I could play them in this music school I would like to attend but I want to play something in my apartment.

So i will definitely buy a guitar then. I would really love to learn to play it.
I have never played it so it would be a first one.

Im a huge music fan overall, I just love music so I love heavy,hard metal but I also love blues and hard rock.

So I dont know whether to buy a rhythm guitar or main/solo guitar.

My favorite band is acdc and I would first start to play those kind of songs but also zz top,rolling stones,stevie ray vaughan but also motorhead and black sabbath.

Im leaning slightly more towards solo guitar because of the possibility to experiment with the solos which is cool of course even though I LOVE Malcolm Youngs style for example of playing, how he carries the songs and his sound is AMAZING.

if you like all the music styles you just named off you wont go wrong with a strat. you wont get the CRUNCH for the metal tunes that you would out of some others but its a well rounded guitar for most all styles.

if you didnt have metal on your list id of told you get a TELE. its the perfect guitar in my opinion but then again i LOOOOVEEE the twang.

get a $25-50 strat so if you don’t like it it’s not like you wasted loads of money

that’s what I play on 99% of the time too

well man you can play metal on pretty much any electric but you are not going to get the crunch you want and need. i didnt look at link but even if thats the thin line semi hollow body tele with humbuckers...you still aint going to get it.

some people dont really care. you need a good ear. i have an ear for chit my self. takes me an hr just to tune up

Buy an electric guitar. Much easier to play and less chances to get frustrated and quit. Playing the guitar is an extremely rewarding activity if you stick to it.
I recommend recording yourself each week so you can see the progress.
In one year you will be amazed at how much you have progressed but keep in mind that it takes years of hard work to become an acceptable guitarist. This should not scare you though as it will take longer than that before you understand why and at that point you willl be much better than the average guitarist.

good advice.

look at it like this. if you are a gamer. and ever played a game like street fighter. when you first started how you kept trying to pull off combos but failed every time. but you kept trying and trying till eventually it came like second nature to you.

its all muscle memory. patience and effort and solid teachings and it will take you far in not just that but pretty much anything in life

Nah Im buying electric one but I dont know should I get rhythm or solo. I did some research and it says it would be probably better to play rhythm first because if im starting to learn to play guitar, rhythm one would be best choice because you have to know basically all chords and rhythm is practically backbone to the songs (backbone of all songs are drums but rhythm guitar is with bass and drums backbone of songs) but idk I mean you can basically play solo guitar and learn on it too it doesnt have that much difference tbh

Buy a used one for under $300.

99% of people who buy then end up either throwing them in the basement or selling them.

There's no such thing as a rhythm or lead guitar.

Or just buy a cheap Ibanez 8 string.

20+ yrs playing here.

My advice.
Don’t focus on lead or rhythm as separate like you are. Just learn them both. Start learning whatever you like with online tab sites. I played in a band for several years that played a lot of gigs and I was the only guitarist covering plenty of double guitar songs by mixing the best parts of rhythm and lead of the song and having a strong bassist.

Don’t go out and over spend on your 1st guitar either. Get something affordable but decent to learn on. Also if you learn on acoustic first, when you get the electric in your hands you’ll be flying in comparison. You’ve got plenty of time to learn the drums after that if you want, I started on guitar but can pretty much adequately cover most main instruments in your normal band.

Above all PRACTICE. Constantly. Obsession is perfection. The satisfaction that comes from trying to be great at something that’s never mastered is hard to describe but you’ll enjoy it from what it sounds like.

Consider buying an electric piano instead, something decent with 88 keys. Guitars are great, but a piano can play more different sounds at the same time (think your 5 fingers vs all ten with each on a different key). You can also plug headphones into an electric piano or connect it to a PC if you want to get into music production.
Also what do you mean rhythm vs. solo? A guitar does both, it's only a matter of technique.

I agree with the strat (type) advice here but it’s not my preferred axe. I’m more of a Les Paul/PRS/schector, or at least those are the 3 I used live to cover a wide range of metal/grunge to really a bit of most things mixed in here and there.

There's no such thing as a rhythm or lead guitar - those are roles in a band not separate pieces of equipment.

I agree with the suggestion of a Strat-type guitar for what you're looking for. If you felt like that's not metal enough get something with a humbucker in it.

Advice from a veteran like yourself is definitely appreciated. Personally like I said I love music and I feel bad I havent picked on an instrument when I was a kid but I will change that now. Too bad I cant get those drums anywhere I love drums I have been air drumming and learning notes online for the past 2 years but **** it I love guitar too and I will buy one and play it every day and I will have to sign up for some music school because even if I learn online, with a teacher it would speed up my process of learning. Thanks also for the advice of not overspending it. There are too many cases of people really overspending on the instrument and they let it collect dust.
