Question for german brothers here

Is it hard to find an "decent" job for immigrants there if you have tattoos?



Im from croatia and Im planning to live there for a few years and work (maybe stay permanentely who knows)

But Im also planning to have some tattoos so idk will that have a negative impact on my future employment there?

At least in the US it is not a big deal if you cover them or are skilled. If you are doing blue collar labor then it's nothing. The only prohibitive jobs I can think of are public-facing roles where the tattoos must be covered, such as service or retail. If you have to wear a suit then they should probably be covered.

Tattoos are not as common in Germany as they are in the US, but they are not publicly shamed either.

Well its 2021 after all and its more relaxed these days and not that looked down on tattoos anymore its just that I want to earn my pension there and maybe even stay there for ever so Im just curious I will inform myself some more on this subject.

Yeah it's definitely more relaxed today. The only things that might cause trouble in public-facing or white collar roles are face and neck tattoos, but I think what's more important are your credentials/experience/education and your language skills. The country is pretty forward-thinking, particularly in the big cities where the best jobs are.

I don't think tattoos are a very big deal, but they are definitely insistent on speaking German and having proper qualification to do the job. Very much a no bs kind of people, appearances are often secondary to working hard and doing things by the book.

Would just ask your employers ahead of time, that's the way to do it, getting a job there before you move. Makes the whole process a lot easier.
