After a BSc in Computer Science and 2 y in software dev, two things I have realised.
1. Business-side facing jobs in tech have more visibility and lead to more promotions.
I think these are business analyst jobs that get promoted to the product manager (compared to software dev to software dev manager).
This is funny because software dev requires more cognitive effort. And BAs/PMs do more surface-level strategy work, which can be more interesting.
I am dipping into that business-side facing jobs at the very least. Front-office finance and management consulting doesn't sound bad too.
2. Corporate is such a random jungle with random job titles and undefined paths, which makes it so dreadful.
Everyone should consider whether they will enjoy a structured career path first like doctor, dentist, nurse, cop, lawyer, teacher rather than all that dross. Dead serious.
