Fast food was a rarity. Portion sizes of food at restaurants were tiny compared to now. High fructose corn syrup did not exist. There wasn't sugar added to everything like today. Or soy in everything. Plastics that raise estrogen in men weren't literally everywhere, especially not holding our food.

Life expectancy is pretty strongly correlated to infant mortality when you control for all other factors, so I don't think that the "average person" in the fifties was only living to be 50. I think more babies were dying during childbirth or young people were dying from diseases we hadn't cured yet.
