Most of the life coaches I know got there because they have failed in other industries, often more than one. So maybe they should coach themselves first?

Normally it is. However I think there are some legit ones.
I know some psychotherapists, who offer coaching for example as one of their services in their office.

The most bizarre thing,

BRB paying some 20 nothing year old $1997 to teach you about โ€œlifeโ€ as a 40something year old

Also see a lot of scammers with forex and โ€œrobotโ€ trading fools.

I canโ€™t believe people fall for that

Its so true that you really don't see anyone who has really made it doing any type of life coaching.

No millionaire lawyers or businessmen doing "life coaching seminars", because nobody who really needs their advice wants to hear that they need to get off their asses and earn what they want in life.

There's examples at a high level. Tony Robbins, people like that who have books and massive programs. But they have obviously leveraged programs and been doing it for decades. Most of them call themselves high performance coaches and have been networking at a high level for a long time.

But yes, 99.5% of life coaches can probably barely pay their rent.

Why get off their asses and work when they can:

1- blame genetics

2- Quit their job and go to a reTREAT in some pajeetistan temple to find their inner chakras

3- Pay for a 3 x days weekend seminar 5000$ that will get them to do the necessary INNER work. I mean it's more important

4- Watch 500 more YouTube videos

5- waste more time online talking about conspiracy theories and how society is fked and every's a sloot

6- Be spiritual, nothing matters anyway and we're all connected, gotta use that organic almond oil on your hair to really feel it

My wife used to have a coworker who was a little out-there and one might argue her life was more of a mess than average. I think she might have just graduated from some sub-tier program of sorts and started freelancing as a life coach on the side. After her first gig for 5k, she quit her day job and ended up flubbing that. A few years later she was jumping from sales job to sales job, ended up in rehab for something or another. It's almost like life coaches need a life coach to function, themselves.

The ones in the red pill sphere seem to be successful personal trainers who branched out to a bigger audience. Elliot Hulse, Hodgetwins, Coach Greg Adams, Alpha male strategies.

It just takes putting yourself out there, finding an audience, being entertaining.

Those guys aren't really grifters like the dating coaches trying to sell get laid formulas to incels. They are the worst, selling useless books and magic get laid soap.

I actually smashed a life coach. As has been pointed out, she was a white female liberal "space cadet" who's actual life was a bit of a mess and she was living with her parents. I met her for happy hour drinks for our first "date." After we got over the small talk at the beginning she got into some of the life coaching and her different philosophies on life. Once she got into that stuff I realized we were on 2 different planets. She asked what I want to do after that, but mentioned we can't go back to her place because she lives with her parents. My ex had took most of the furniture out of my house after our breakup so I kept it real and said "well we could go back to my place but all I have right now is my bed." She said "that sounds like fun, let's get out of here." We fooled around for a little bit on the bed and got naked. Right as I reach for the condom she makes me lay down on her chest so she can "feel my energy" for a few minutes before I blow her back out. WTF?

This is part of the issue. I think you have some high profile people who have actually done some things, but for the most part when someone uses the "life coach" label for themselves its a red flag. If they were more legit they tend to use a different job title.

I actually disagree here. Consultants can definitely be worthless. But they can also be very valuable. And being a consultant doesn't always mean some big corporate gig. My dad worked in a factory all his life and after he retired they offered him a part time consulting gig. He hated that place so he didn't take the job. I know a few architects who have retired and come back as part time consultants for various reasons. My uncle was a city treasurer and came back to the city as a part time consultant after he retired.

I think once you get into people with legit psychology degrees and practices its a step up and those people typically won't tell you they are a "life coach" as their job title. My step sister is a psychologist with her own practice and does some life coaching.

Most of it is quackery. Anyone can call themselves a life coach, even those that are in absolutely no position to be offering any advice as their own lives are a steaming pile of dog schit and they can't even develop the flexibility and willingness to help themselves.
