The financial ties and the (supposedly) lifelong commitment that comes with marriage. My bf has brought it up several times before since we talk about kids/the future pretty often. I wouldn't have kids with a bf, but with a husband, absolutely. He feels the same way.

For a financially stable man or woman - there is none. No marriage =/= no relationship. You can still raise children as a family.

In general, marriage does fuk all for raising kids and/or commitment.

Neither one of those things are dependent on the governments permission to be with someone.

The only legitimate reason is for taxes. That is the only real tangible effect of marriage that is predictable, measurable, and automatically is taken away after the divorce.

Depending on your personal situation prior to marriage, giving yourself that financial and legal obligation to another person might not even be worth the tax benefits.

Marriage is a dying institution, simply because it is a lie.

It is a legal administrative process that yields legal benefits.

You can have religion without marriage. You can raise kids effectively without marriage. You can be committed to each other with marriage.

At the same time marriage does not automatically satisfy religious needs, ensure effective raising of children, or a loyal commitment.

It’s all bull****.
