Why do people assume that you're stupid if you're quiet?

This is something i've been noticing recently in my everyday interactions as an introverted guy; people tend to assume that i'm stupid and so they proceed to treat me like that by ignoring me or trying to screw me over. I think my "race" also plays a part in this. When they get called out on it, they quickly back down and are red-faced. I wish assault and murder were legal as i'd like to kill a few people. My family even do this sometimes which is even more annoying

Has anybody else who is quiet and introverted noticed this? How do you deal with it?

I'm the quiet guy at work and people treat me like I'm in special ed or something srs

Funny thing is I'm actually pretty smart I just don't like to talk much and would rather work or just talk when it feels appropriate I don't want to small talk or get involved in drama

Every single person treats me like I'm a retard though

I think a lot of times people say that the quiet person is stuck up. Not sure the reasoning behind that though.

Yes i have had this a lot so many times. People assume that just because you're quiet you're stuck up and that you think you're better than everyone else but honestly sometimes i don't know what to say or have anything to say. Sometimes being an extrovert would be so much easier.

I always thought it was the opposite.

Being that quiet people are perceived as more intelligent and that very social and playful people are seen as less intelligent.

Dunno what to tell you.

The tradies that are actually smart at my job are actually pretty quiet for the most part.

Actually the opposite for me. I’m also introverted and tend not to say much. I’m pretty much an idiot and I’ve been promoted like 6 times in the last few years. I just make sure when I do speak it’s something that sounds smart.

From my experience, people often think im stupid cos im quiet so they try and rip me off or give me a chit deal in a situation. The look on their faces when they get called out on their chit is hilarious. So i always make it a point to call out chitty behaviour.

Not everyone is like this but there are a lot of people that just treat you like you are a special ed kid or something if you're quiet and it's annoying

Or some people will keep mentioning how quiet you are around people which is annoying also
