Depends on the size of the guy doing it. If some 120lb twink is putting up 225, lotta respect. Somebody 250lbs...just LOL.

For me, 225, 315, and 405 were the big milestones. Everyone pops their real cherry at 225.

Was stuck between 365-405 for 2 freaking years so once I put up 405 I considered it my greatest "lifting achievement."

Once I did that I maxed 425 and called it a day. Don't need or want anymore, the risk is too high for some one like me who has too many life responsibilities. Now on max days I'll throw 405 on and squeeze 2-4 out and that's that.

I'd say ~1.5-1.75x body weight. That's not world class powerlifter territory, but for the average gym goer that range shows you've put some time & dedication and reached a point most people are never going to get to.

I'm talking a full press, not some quarter reps bounced off your beer belly for a 2" lift.

I am going to deal with absolute figures.

If you can clean bench 2 plates for reps comfortably you're ahead of most humans.

3 plates is about the pinnacle for most natural humans with a moderate gym schedule and it puts you probably in the top 5% or higher for people you'll meet.

4 plates is elite status. Hard work very possible as a natural, otherwise usually suspect.

Anything significantly above that I'd assume your competition status, eating real food or have 0.1% exceptional genetics.

Those are some HIGH standards bro. I think 225 is decent, 275 is strong and 315+ is really good.

I think this is more appropriate, the gym I go to has quite a few pros showing up and the owner of Evogen along with his sponsored athletes. Even then there are only a handful regularly putting up 3 plates.

I'm not quite at 3 plates yet but hopefully within the next year or so. The average guy is doing 135-175 here anyways.

3 plates on a nonbloatlord will make most people check to see if you're ego lifting or can actually move it

But if you see some dude at the gym benching eg. 315 you aren't going to go and ask what his bodyweight is are you? So basing a bench off bodyweight is stupid imo for someone lifting at the gym

For a natty who is relatively lean, 405 is a monsterous bench

I respect anyone over 2 plates who falls within a healthy weight range.

I don't respect a fat person's lifts regardless of world record status or not.

3 plates will get me to look. 2 plates is better than 90% of the population so I guess that’s decent

% of BW is a stupid metric.

Bench by % body fat is more impressive

Find me someone natty, sub 12% bf, benching 3 plates. I’ll keep waiting. It’s possible but at a local gym you will almost never see it

Using body weight as a measurement is just a way for manlets to pat themselves on the back

Not sheriff troll or quarter reps.

Check your kg->lbs conversion canadabrah.

No way in hell anyone untrained reaches 225 within a month or two unless they're 250lbs+

Have legit been lifting 20 years and have never seen someone bench 495 in a public gym, and I used to work out at a hardcore bodybuilding gym. Have only seen 405 a couple of times.

225 for solid reps or 315x1 is the line for "respectable" in my opinion.

Miles may vary. Those are chump numbers in a powerlifter gym.

Big difference between just normal gym goers and powerlifting. I'd say over 225 for normal gyms. Over 315 paused for powerlifting.

Lifting a car over your head for 8 reps and tossing it 200 yards. Anything less is light work.

I think 3 plates is 'decent' and every man can hit it with enough dedication and time.

But i'm not really impressed by it, if i see 4 plates i'm impressed.

misc never fails to make me LOL.

Most people will never achieve 405 naturally, and you're acting like it's the bar for simply not being a casual lifter lol.

I suppose you bench 500lbs, right?

Impressive?

Most high school football kids can press 225 lol.

For a gym bro? 225 is basic.

315 is normal.

405 is impressive.

If a guy is pressing 225 it better just be his warmup set or he better be doing 20 reps working on his endurance, otherwise he's not even a man. That's chick weight.
